Default What would you get with a $5000 budget?

If you had $5000 to send on an car (No trucks or vans). Auto and AC is a must, around 150K, 200K max. It would see 35-45K hwy km a year... so must be reliable and fuel efficient. Would would you get?

Yes I know I wouldn't expect too many years out of it...

I've had a 1997 chevy cavalier and 2002 Pontiac sunfire both cost $3000 ech and both lasted 4+ years and I'm still driving the sunfire. They're Cheap to fix, pretty reliable and cheap on gas

Ditto! Civic or Corolla. They've been the industry's standard for a reason.

    lol why?

What do you guys think of a 07 Accent with 115K for $3500!? Here's the catch it's a rebuilt apparently was a front fender and it cost $6000 to fix it which isn't that much once you start replacing parts.

Personally I would stay far away from a branded/rebuilt car.

Civic is horrible for insurance. Cavalier or sunflowers are great. I bought one at 50,000km and i drove the shit out of it to 300,000 without even changing the spark plugs lol. Did the oil and a new fuel pump that was it lol.

You could also look at a mx6 ( which my dad has a great one for sale ). Protege is good aswell.

Altima is good. Just get the 2.5 for better mileage.

+1 on the civic or 'rolla.

i'd lean more to the corolla, so dam simple and easy to work on. Like other's have said silver or grey haha stay away from beige.

Just saw another car today...it's an 04 Saturn Ion base model with under 58K on it that I can get for $3800 (just needs tires and brake service). The bad part is it had a head gasket replaced in January and there was a oil leak (discovered by another guy who was interested and took it to a mechanic) the owner had it fixed by his mechanic last week. Not sure exactly what was done and if this is going to be a reoccurring issue or even lead so more issues. Would you guys take it or pass. I need to give him the answer by tomorrow am.

Edit: the guy is selling it for his mother in law, the lady barely drove it and probably didn't maintain the car much.

I had a 94 MX6 for my first car about 10 yrs ago.
Only had it for a year, not reliable. Sold it after 12-13 months. Then my next car was a Protege MP3, had it for few years, start rusting a bit and repair are coming.....

I wouldnt touch old Mazda personally.

Dunno how reliable or efficient they are but I love em so I thought I'd put it out there.
