Hi All
Just a quick question.
Can one notice a big difference in gas mileage with a 2012 Mazda 3 2.0 vs Skyactive ( same year )
My sister 'n law is in a market ... and to be honest .. not sure if she should go with 2.0 vs skyactive.
Thanks

Id say yes regardless if shes driving mostly city or mostly highway. if nostly highway 1000% get the skyactiv ( i can attest to the mileage). in city driving, cars usually dont get that great of mileage anyway but the sky with its 6speed and whatnot helps you save the most gas whenever youre driving. id say maybe look at what normal 2.0 drivers are getting MPG wise compared to what sky2.0 drivers are getting while driving in the city.

If what you're concerned about is gas mileage, I dont think there is any reason not to get the skyactiv. It is clearly better than the regular 2.0 in those regards, not to mention skyactiv is all about exactly that, being good on gas.
Wait for the 2014's...
- 2021 Porsche Macan GTS -
- 2016 Lexus NX200t F Sport -
- 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 Black Mica - SOLD -
well if you wait for 2014's the interest rate will be at like 4,99 and prices will be higher, they are currently at their lowest for this gen and im pretty happy with what i have and i have to admit that even if the front desing maybe attractive, they completely failed the back IMO
4/10 would not bang
My 2 cents
Skyactiv is going to cost $2000 plus tax $260 ($2260 ballpark) han the 2.0LGX. If 2.0L GX uses 2L more per 100/km than the Skyactiv then for 20,000 km/per year works out to about $405 more paid (41.27L) in gas driving the 2.0L GX. So you will have to drive the Skyactiv for at least four years before you start to see any savings at the pump.
Also are the skyactiv features worth the extra money up front? The Skyactiv will likely have a better resale value due to fuel economy.
I’m holding out for the next generation and can live with the 60 month interest rate. I’d never buy a car on a 0% for 84 months.
A year ago I test drove a Sky-Active Mazda 3 sedan and didn't like it. The onboard computer was too restrictive. I then tried a regular 2.0 L Mazda 3 and it was much more fun: faster and more responsive. I get 7 L per 100 km on the highway driving at 115 km/h (real life mileage on a road trip from toronto to chicago il and back)

Just a normal tank, Monday-Friday driving with a bit of city at night
No offence... but EFFFF YOU!!! lol
I have a love hate with MPG... either you get good mileage or zip around with turbo going woosh all the time and giggle like a little school girl.
IMHO go with the skyactiv if you don't mind paying more now cuz you will definately save gas money in the future.
i try not to post pics to irk the speeders :p
I know my car isnt the fastest thing out there, but it still brings a smile to my face when youre on the gas. IMO its one of the best for both fun to drive/MPG. The only thing i could think that would be more fun in everyday commuting, would be a TDI since youve got all that torques at your disposal
i easely get 680km from a full tank and thars when i get on it. i drive it a bit too much but the worst gas milage a got out of it was 8.1L\100km
my old legacy GT would never go below 12L/100km so yeah the skyactiv for me is such a great car fuel wise (and handling isnt that bad too)
i had a mazda 3 2004 (first car ive owned) and i gotta say, it was bad on gas and im pretty sure its the same 2.0L engine in the 2012-13's base models and its bad on gas, epsetialy if she takes the AT
What you get for the $2000:
- Better Engine
- Better Transmission (6 speed vs 5)
- Alloy Wheels
- Bluetooth
- Seat warmers
- Two Tweeters for your speaker system
- Leather Steering Wheel and Shift Knob
The alloy wheels alone cost almost half the $2000 you would have to pay for the upgrade. So the engine and transmission upgrade is pretty much the other half (less if you want to price out the other upgrades you get). That said, I don't quite understand how some people get the base package with alloy wheels added on instead of going full on and paying for the trim upgrade.
When I bought my Mazda 3, I was looking at the base model but was sold on the Skyactiv after seeing how much it would cost to upgrade. And yes, I was intending to get Alloy wheels no matter what (I hate steel wheels with a passion) and the Skyactiv upgrade was a nobrainer.
Oh also side sills for the Hatchback SkyActiv, if you want that sporty look, it is also a plus.
