Default What am I doing wrong? Selling my 2010 Mazda 3 GT

    Hi all,

I'm trying to sell my 2010 Mazda 3 GT with just under 100,000 km. The car is a Velocity Red sedan, manual transmission, fully loaded "E" Package (Leather, Nav, Push Start etc) and is overall in good condition minus a few scratches on the body which is pretty normal for a car this year.

I've got it posted on kijiji & autotrader for $11,900 in hopes that people will see it and try to negotiate......but nothing. Am I priced way too high? Do buyers not want a manual? What's a realistic price for this car?

    thanks,
    Tyler

seems like its priced well but i might be wrong but also it could be that its manual transmission which may discourage most of the buyers.

    Here's the ad http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/c...ationFlag=true
(mods please don't take this as me posting a for sale in the wrong section)

The only noticeable damage is from what I presume was a cyclist dropping their bike into my passenger door. It's a bit dented and has been touched up vs. repainting the whole door. I'm willing to negotatiate based on that.

I'll see what response I get and will be patient, but I'm also not driving the car very much and still paying for parking/insurance on an unused vehicle which is why I'd like to sell quicker.

OP, when did you post the ads? When it comes to selling anything, especially a major purchase like a car, patience is a virtue. You'll find a buyer eventually.

Post an ad on Craigslist as well - the more visibility, the better. Be sure to renew the ad every 48 hours to increase its visibility. I would do the same for Kijiji, but the only way around that is if you delete the ad and repost it. I would also detail the car inside and out and post photos from lots of different angles if you haven't already done that.

I've had the ads up for a couple of weeks, and the car has been cleaned pretty well and the photos should reflect that.

It doesn't look like I can post the kijiji ad up here, it's saying it needs to go through a moderator first. You're right though, I'll be patient and keep posting the ad over and over, as well put it on Craigslist. I just wanted to make sure my price wasn't out too lunch. The only "major" damage to the car is where someone (I think) must've dropped there bike against the passenger door when it was parked. Damage isn't terrible, but noticeable, and the price I sell for will reflect that. Also some scratches on the bumper from people who have no idea how to park.

I should note that the paid autotrader ad has only been up since Friday, and about a week before that for both kijiji/autotrader.

Lots of patience is needed most especially that your car is manual and not auto. I had the same thing about a year ago, same model and year but not an E package. Before I traded up, I tried selling privately, waited for months until I decided to trade it in. Mine was only at 20k when I traded it in. I received a lot of calls and most of them preferred an auto.

asking price is close to fair. I think it's manual tranny that results in lack of interest

It is definitely the manual tranny that is limiting interest. Selling a car yourself is a pain in the ass, been there done that. Now I trade them in even if you leave money on the table going this route. Saves the aggravation of dealing with time wasters, lowballers, and no shows.

And to think I bought it with the manual because I thought I'd regret an auto in the long term. Turns out there is no long term, but the regret is there

Patience grasshopper It usually takes time to sell used, alot of options for people out there.

You might want to specify 'Or best offer' on the ads and consider dropping insurance to fire and theft if your not driving it, to save a few bucks. If you have a serious buyer come by, you can always call the insurance and put full coverage back on for 24hr or so periods...They're usually pretty accommodating.

Thanks everyone - patience is a virtue

I will see how it goes and modify the ad/lower the asking price as I see fit. The last car I sold used was in 2002 and I forgot about the waiting!

Manuals are a hard sell. Buyers have hesitation about the transmission and red is a nice colour but not for just anyone.
The right buyer will come along but it will take some time. Price looks about right for the mileage but remember you are competing with Dealers at that price. As noted above most come with the CPO program that offers roadside assistance, extended warranty and lower interest rates.
    Did you try trading it?

Average annual mileage is about 20k per year so the mileage is in the ballpark.
