    Default Cracked Rear Bumper

Hey newbie here, so take it easy on me!

So my 10 month old 2012 Mazda 3 Sport got into a spot of bother after a reversing issue and the long story short, the rear bumper is cracked right down the middle, more or less over the rear plate. Own fault error so no one else is to blame, but now I'm wondering what my options are. I don't want to run it through my insurance and I don't really want to crack repaired (unless the repair is amazing!). Ideally, I want it out of sight, out of mind and swap it out if possible.

At a guess, I'm estimating at least $900 for a swapped out bumper but I'm sure the guys on here will have a better idea. I'll post a pic in a few minutes as soon as I can grab one. Any recommendations would be great.

Here's the damage, straight crack through the rear and the light about the plate appears to have broke away from it's housing as well.

If it's mostly covered by the rear plate I might just consider leaving it. At least until after winter, just in case some fool rear ends you.

    It's right above the plate.

Some body shops can fix the same bumper and it won't be that expensive

2012 will be hard to find a bumper cheap at the junkyard.

Thats what I was thinking. I mean it's more or less a clean, vertical shear...what kind of repair would they do, so that it wouldn't be noticeable? Are you familiar with the process?

In Belleville their is a body shop that repairs plastic bumpers... When their done with it you wouldn't even know it was cracked..

some people I know got their bumpers fixed and they did top notch work...

If I was you i would take your car to different body shops to get quotes

I was hoping on finding somewhere in Toronto that does plastic bumper repairs. If I can get a reputable shop to do a good job on the repair I'll do it. It seems a shame to replace the entire bumper for such a simple crack. I'm afraid to bring it back to the Dealership, as I have a feeling that is what they'll suggest.

Newmarket Auto Body. They did my front bumper when I was sandwiched between two cars last February. Not sure the cost as it went through insurance.

So I've been procrastinating and delaying getting this fixed and it's really bugging me. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to get this fixed up?
My Mazda Dealer has quoted me for $1000 for a replacement OEM bumper, which I dont really want to fork out for.

Anyone have a good contact that wont rip me off?

Yes Rockauto would be the bumper only and likely not painted, only primer.

If you took it to a paint shop they would probably install it for free providing you pay for the paint.

Highly unlikely. That's 1 hours work. Probably 1.5 by some books. I've heard shops who charge $150.

Just get it painted and DIY bumper install. Easy job and lots of tutorials online.

You're right. I'm going by how simple it is to pull the bumper from my Dakota... 4 bolts accessible from opening hood and front bumper is off.

I should've realised its probably longer to remove the bumper on a Mazda 3.

I'd rather the rear bumper didn't fall off on the 401.
