Default First time buyer: looking for maintenance advice.

I have long been a fan of the Mazda 3 (courtesy of Zipcar Toronto) and having seen the new 2014 model the choice was clear for my first car.

I thought I did my research in choosing the right dealership and ended up at Avante. The salesperson was quite helpful but i think i could've gotten a better deal and i don’t believe he was as up front as I had hoped. Anyhow i’m a no bullshit guy who figured dealerships will play me regardless of how cautious i think i can be. I’m happy with my purchase and can’t wait for the expected delivery/pick-up date for my 2014 Mazda 3 Sport GS with Convenience Package.

I agreed to the rust proofing but just emailed him to opt out since my research suggests that it’s cheaper and better to get it done myself (i didn't trust the way they sold it to me at Avante).

What kind of maintenance should i expect with a new Mazda 3? Mechanics or places for car detailing/rust proofing that anyone may recommend? Is there any other advice for a first time buyer with respect to maintenance?

On a new car, there isn't a whole lot you have to worry about with regard to mx for quite a while. Just get your oil changed at the right time and you're good to go.
There are a ton of sponsors on here that do mx, modifications, detailing and rustproofing. I think nearly all of them have TM3 discounts and promotions. Check around that subforum, you should also find reviews n stuff.

Welcome and congratulations on the car!

As far as maintenance goes, I got my car in April, and the only thing I've done is an oil change. It suggests tire rotation any day now, but I might wait another month, just to get it done along with the oil change.
