    Default Oppinions on CORKSPORT SKIDPLATE

I recently destroyed my plastic skidplate. So instead of installing a new plastic one, I wanted to try the aluminum machined one made by corksport.

Anyone have any oppinions or reviews on it? Especially people that drove it during winters? Apparently it has less clearance on it. Or should I just stick with a new plastic one again or some other alternative? Thanks!

I think he meant from someone who has purchased that particular skid plate on this forum.

IMHO reviews on manufacturer's websites are usually worthless.

The reviews on Corksport's website may actually be the exception but an independent review is always preferred.

Especially a canadian one that involves lots of salt.
Canada gave us rust and DRL. Thanks for nothing Canada!

i dont have one, but IMO i would just use the plastic one. You may never need to replace the aluminium plate, but you just might, especially with the salt as mentioned above. You could buy a few plastic ones for the price of 1 CS one

Does anyone here have one? There was one CAD. Review mentioning winter but it would be nice for a second opinion.

Not sure why people are worried about aluminum and salt. As far as I know, aluminum doesn't rust, it will corrode, however the corrosion in aluminum forms a barrier that will actually protect the aluminum from further corrosion. Am I missing something here?

Yup aluminum doesn't rust. Skid plate seems like a solid thick piece. Similar to what off-roaders use. IMO you don't have much options beside Corksport. They're a reputable company. I'd go for it.

It actually stated is has higher clearance, it only said it fights tighter which means when you install, you should probably tighten the bolts in an X pattern to make it easier on yourself.

I've got an aluminium one sitting round. I just don't run one at all.

Corrosion, same thing. IIRC Steel and aluminum don't play nice (galvanic corrosion). But if it really doesn't, then wonderful... was just asking the question.

Plus I spray the car at crown. I'm concerned primarily with protecting the underside of my first car in heavy snow. Is it worth the investment?

If you're lowered, perhaps. If you're riding stock height, I wouldn't bother. Depends if you drive in the tundra. Actually you'll never justify needing it until your plastic skid tray gets damaged.... repetitively. Best you can do is check it every season. Until it falls off, keep on trucking.

Lowered on prokits. The plastic tray was damaged last week when i hit a trailer hitch on the road but its still intact. I'll keep an eye on it, and if it parts ways with me then I'll look into this

I have the CS skidplate, got it after my plastic one ripped off during a winter. Been fairly satisfied with it, had it for 2 winters now and no problems. Way more durable then the plastic one for sure. I'd recommend it.

Do the holes line up properly for easy mounting? Or does it require creativity to make it fit?

Everything lines up perfectly. Didnt take long to install, under an hour with a friend. You literally just screw it into the holes already built in the car. The hardest part was probably just taking out some of the old screws from the plastic one.
