    Question Projects for 2014

What are you planning on doing to your M3 in 2014?

I'm looking to do the following (if this is a bad setup, don't hesitate to suggest something better; I'm not that familiar with the brands):

    - MOOG RH & LH Control Arm + Ball Joint Assemblies
    - MOOG RH & LH Front and Rear Sway Bar Links
    - Hotchkis Front and Rear Adjustable Sway Bars

It won't be cheap but I think it would provide a better quality ride compared to the OEM setup.

I think you're over doing it. Get Koni yellows and call it a day.

Unless your car is rusted like mine and control arms bushing are messed up, go for control arms. I'm gonna do mine after this winter. Else just sway bars should be good. Or at least get swaybars first, see how it goes and then decide on control arms.

Unless you have to cut your links to remove swaybar, stay with stock swaybar links.

Mazda 3 projects for 2014: Oil changes and tire rotations.

All of my "fun" projects are for the other car.

looks like i completed my 2013 wishlist... probably just a couple things around summer time - safe injection flow gauge/module. 17' summer rims (any suggestions)? going on 255/40r17 tires. probably going to roll the fenders too. thats about it!

I am changing out the control arms because of a loud clunking noise. I looked at some vids on YouTube and the sound was the same for a bad ball joint.. Since the control arms are half rusted, I figured I'd swap them out.. The ball joint comes with the assembly so it's a straight up swap.

Aren't the MOOG sway bar links the same as OE? Just with better quality materials?

A few odds and ends I have around the house to install, OCC, recirc tube, boost gauge...then probably get a widepath intake in the spring and maybe some other big turbo supporting mods. Warranty is up at the end of 2014, so might as well prepare for bigger and better things (although no gaurentee I take that plunge).

I'm planning to source a spare engine and rebuild it with ranger crank, forged piston and rods.

MOOG are built on oem standard. But good thing about them are that they don't have stupid allen key design to remove the bolt, where you have to hold the 5mm key to remove the bolt and will always strip the hole. Instead they have a better nut design and you use a wrench to hold it in place while you lock it in place.

But if your stock one are good and you didn't had any problem removing them, stay with them. Just tighten them to correct specs.

For me, 2014 will involve doing the last couple things to the car and then not spending any more money on it and starting to save up for the next car.

Yes. I'm planning to rebuild my NA. I work for motorsport company and can rebuild an engine cheaper than swapping a junkyard engine thanks to special pricing and access to all the equipments ranging from decking the head to machining the crank.
To clear things up, not going for hp gain. Just something to get my hands dirty. I already have close to 200k on my stock and its time to freshen things up.

Whats the fun in that. Haven't you heard "Built Not Bought". I design supercharger kits for Mustangs and Raptor trucks and develop 1000+hp cars. If instead of getting my hands dirty to rebuild an small 2.3l engine, I go and buy a new car, whats the use of my engg degree. I love working on cars just as much as I love driving them. Might be easier for you to swap cars if you don't know how to rebuild an engine but I do know how to do it.

Now lets get back on topic before Loki gets angry.
