Stupid remote which led to me spending $400
Stupid remote which led to me spending $400
Works well tho
Nice i have the harmony 700. Not as fancy but works awesome
- My Ride!
I like the one remote
Yep really handy to have everything programmed in snd just click "watch tv" and have everyyhing turn on and switch to the rihht inputs and outputs.
I've got the 650 as well, decent little thing.
Anyone want to buy a brand new in sealed box ps3 remote control? lol like this:
- 2021 Porsche Macan GTS -
- 2016 Lexus NX200t F Sport -
- 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 Black Mica - SOLD -
Someone made a man cave thread here before if we're going to turn it into a post your home theatre thread (similar enough).
Different enough IMO
Pretty sure it wad default_user who created that thread
I've got a good sounding system on a budget... and that Budget was pretty much free.
my dad spent a boatload of money of KEF speakers and an Onkyo Reciever in the late 90's... and now that they've moved up north my mom refused to allow him to "clutter" up their new place (no basement)
I reaped the rewards - Problem is its a hodgepodge of outdated/improper equipment - But its all high(ish) end stuff... But since its older theres no HDMI - so things are Piggybacked/routed in different directions by different processors....
Onkyo - DS-777 receiver
Sattelites - KEF Bookshelf speakers Wall Mounted (full range) Not sure of model. They are powerful but sound OK. (bit muddy - lacking treble... but they do the job)
Main Stereos: The Original Mirage speakers. Like... the FIRST (circa 1979 - New foam surround in 2008). I can't find anything about them, but for mids, vocals and treble its like sweet sweet honey, but clear as glass. They don't handle bass amazingly well but they sounded so much better than the athena speakers I had before.
Center Channel: A bookshelf speaker - Athena Technologies AS B2-1
Subwoofer is actually from a Z-5500 Computer speaker set... They are amazing computer speakers, and did the job admirably as a home theater system... One Which I slowly cannibalized and converted into my current setup. it was fine for my first 500 sqft apartment, but as time went on (and my dad kept buying new stuff) I slowly replaced it with his leftovers.
TV is a 46 inch Samsung - had a 40 but my dad just got a new 60 inch so I traded him my 40 inch Cold Cathode LCD for his LED LCD. Good trade. He now has a 40 inch TV in the Bunky. (aka where I sleep when I go there)
Since the receiver is old, it doesn't handle ANY of my video - it has S-VIDEO and RCA inputs for video only.
Ive got:
Wii Component-->Samsung TV
PS3 HDMI--Samsung TV
PS3 Optical --> Onkyo Optical 2 IN
PC DVI>HDMI -->Samsung
PC Optical --> Onkyo Optical 1 IN
Samsung TV Stereo Out --> Onkyo Video1 Input
Onkyo Optical Out --> Z5500 Subwoofer Optical In
Onkyo Subwoofer Pre-Out --> Z5500 Subwoofer Center/Sub Channel (it won't send optical data when I'm listening to records via Phono Input)
RCA Turntable with Ortofon 2M Red Stylus --> Onkyo Phono Input
There are two benefits to this setup:
- Its very controllable - the subwoofer has its own dedicated remote
- It was the closest I could get to "free"
The big con:
Megan doesn't have a HOPE of learning how to use it, and calls me every time she wants to watch TV (its our only TV)
For that reason, I'm seriously eyeing the Onkyo TX NR626 at best buy...
http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/...b6371cf7f3en02
It has everything I need. Its not nearly as powerful as my DS777 (135watts RMS vs 95 watts) I probably don't need that unless I'm REALLY pushing the mirage floor speakers. But, its the cheapest most full featured receiver i've seen with a phono input for the turntable.

Here is mine:
TV: 50" LG Plasma PK550
Audio: Onkyo HT-S3500 Home Theatre System
Player: PS3
Inputs: All through HDMI
Remote: Logitech 650
Happy with the setup which I got 3 years ago. The audio is a bit lacking but nothing to complain about.
For those of you with those Panasonic Plasmas, hang on to those. When I bought my LG, the Panasonics were out of my budget. Now that they are within budget, they have stopped making Plasmas
Yeh the panasonics are solid. Pretty sure they still make them. The 65 inch is around $1899
The 2013 is their last lineup. They are gonna sell the last plasma in March 2014.

I would jump on that 65" you are talking about though if you are in the market. Here is the review:
http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-t...-35558330.html
Was actually on sale @ futureshop for $1699 but they are out of stock...Might find it elsewhere though
Ahhhh!
Got a 42" Panasonic Viera in the master bedroom and fricken love it. Best plasmas on the market when I got it. Connected to a Rogers Nextbox and Sony Blue Ray player
Got the same 52" Samsung plasma as Thrizzle in my living room on Boxing Day a couple years ago. Not as crisp as the Viera though - but still no issues. Connected an XBoxONE and Rogers HD Nextbox - Running Polk Audio sound bar with wireless subwoofer.
The man cave has a 100" projector screen wired to a 5.1 Polk audio surround sound system. Not an HD Projector - but still clear enough for the "wow-factor" home theatre experience. Currently only running a Sony PS3 to it.
Kids rooms both have a 32" Toshiba LCD - got em for under $300 each and are wired to cordless headphones so I don't hear the gibberish of "monster high" and the voices of that whiney little bitch, "Cailliou"
Will keep an eye out on the Panasonic
They're sold out at both futureshop and bestbuy
They do.....
To 65 inch or to 60 inch...
That is the question
Just go all out and order panasonics 102" plasma
Do any of you have your sound systems and displays calibrated?
I have a 32" Samsung LCD with a Sony theatre in a box in my room and it was calibrated by a guy at work. Looks and sounds way better then before it was calibrated.
Want to work on your car but not sure how, send me a PM. Learn the way of Nator.
A lion would never cheat on his wife, but a Tiger Wood.
65" for sure...I would jump on that right now if I wasnt modding the car lol
I didnt get it calibrated but I did a 20 point calibration based on settings I found on avsforums by multiple users...pretty happy with it. I would recommend calibration as well makes a world of difference
Imo Calibration is great if you have perfect control over your environmental lighting, but for the majority of us it'd be mostly wasted.
My TV has 3 modes. Dynamic, normal, and movie. I tweaked them all to my own preferences. I use dynamic when we have people over or the TV is just on as background. Lights all on, fireplace etc. Normal is when megan and I are watching something together, casually with only a few of the lights on. Movie mode is for a dark room. Contrast and brightness are lower, black levels weaker and the backlight is low. Gives the most lifelike picture and I'm really happy with it... but again super low light levels in the room. With the lights on you'd barely see anything.
My setup is in my basement so have full control of the lighting
I just might jump on that 65 inch
Nothing left to mod on my car
