I would like this comment...if I could and wouldn't have posted this useless comment

As to not be an optimist.. Perhaps pair the 'like' with the ol'irc feature to 'slap in the head with a large trout'

I just preferred not to get into supporting my comment. If someone wants to implement it, it will certainly get done. I was just voicing my own opinion on the matter, not the consensus of the group.

Just in case someone wants to add it. There is some sort of coding on the page that means nothing to me.

This is not the first time it gets brought up, and one compelling reason is to give post whores an opportunity to voice their support without posting LOL, LMAO...it will in fact increase the substance of the forum, rather than take away from it.

Cuz social media is also about acknowledgement. If you don't let ppl casually acknowledge something they agree with, then you end up with a bunch of +1's, LOL, LMAO...cuz you know we need more posts like those along with more posts unrelated to cars...

You maybe correct.... although I have to ask do we really want to encourage that sort of behaviour? While some threads do end up devolving into a string of emoticons (sometimes it's pretty much inevitable) I think it would be preferable to encourage genuinely useful feed back (e.g. +1 plus supporting comment) rather than just a thumbs up. In other words... actual dialogue.

Except a lot of the time dialogue is unnecessary. Like if you post a picture in the "cell phone snapshot" thread, people can leave feedback on your post without cluttering up the thread with useless posts.

It looks like this and it's great:

Unlike the pop'n of Canada, we have a, I suppose good problem...the avg age of TM3 tends to stay young or keep getting younger. If I felt that these millennials will actually take heed of sageful advise, then I would make the effort...and I have, and it doesn't click. So instead of asking for more substance from them, I'd prefer that they have an opportunity to voice their acknowledgement rather than the typical half ass attempt at participating.

Also, we have a lot of newer members...a good thing. They want to be part of the action, without feeling stupid...so some, like me when I was new, might take the time to craft what they may think are meaningful reply, yet still fall on their face...

Anyway, the idea is to also provide the newer member a way to participate, without worries of humiliation due to newb ignorance.

I agree with you: meaningful discussion and dialogue would be best. In lieu of that, let's not cloud up meaningful discussions with simple acknowledgments that can be symbolized by a click.

lets not forget, this forum is primarily meant for a common ground for people to discuss car problems...say I look up something about using premium gas in an NA Mazda 3. I will likely find the "what type of gas do you use/find the best thread"

there are a ton of comments saying basically the same thing about how it is a waste of money and if anything makes the engine work harder because it is not tuned for premium gas.

Rather than having to sift through 12 or more pages of comments seeing comments like "^^this", "ya totally a waste", "lol why would you spend that money on an NA 3" I would be able to look at 3-5 pages of comments about the type of gas people use and why, and any comments regarding NA 3s with premium gas would likly have 25ish likes, thus telling me that at least 26 people on the forum agree it makes no difference and is a waste of money.

Its a little nicer than seeing some random number of likes on a post. Pressing the like button has lost its novalty for me so i prefer a thank you for a helpful post. Very Canadian as well.
