My car spends too much time at Jimmy's

Brake issues fixed and back on the road as a daily work horse. New clutch still feels amazing. Car is nimble and quick downtown.

Went in for an oil change on Monday.

Both front Prokits had snapped (thankfully close to where they are seated in the shock), bought used for cash, no receipt ect.

I Ordered Tein S-Tech springs off Amazon & Picked up 2 rear trailing arm bushings and a passenger side axle seal from MoT today. It will all be swapped in at Jimmy's soon and I'll have an alignment done afterwards.

I also have to re-finish the headlights as the 3M kit wore off after 2 years. They foggy again.

After all that I might sell the car, Lease something new, take the bus again, buy something else and not mod it. I dunno. It's up in the air. If I was offered $4-5K for everything on the car now, winters & spare parts, I would sell it.

I have worked out the numbers - for traveling on the weekends in the summers / holidays it would be cheaper for me to rent through Enterprise (corporate discount code) whenever I need a car. I could rent economy countless times and it would be cheaper than owning my 3 (gas, maintenance, insurance, registration ect). I'm just paying for a luxury and convenience of driving whenever I want.

(I have a new Cadillac ATS lined up for this weekend which would be the same price as a kia rio without the discount code.)

    Updated list - 2008 Mazda3 GS 2.0L Sedan 5sp Manual

    MODS

Soon to be installed Tein S-TECH lowering springs
    Koni orange shocks
    Corksport skid tray
    Thule roof rack with fairing
2 sets of powdercoated Mazda 6 wheels.
    - candy red summers on Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport
    - gloss black winters on Hankook I-Pike RS
    Mazdaspeed rear sway bar
    Corksport SRI
    JBR mudflaps
Tinted windows 35 side, 20 back, tinted vinyl wrapped tail lights
    RHO relocation plate
    Hella horns
Morimoto halogens installed by Hyper Garage
    Zalman 2 CH dashcam
    Gloss black vinyl wrapped hood
New clutch - Exedy OEM replacement + OEM flywheel
    SPC Rear camber arms
Newer brakes OEM rotors and Halk HP+ pads

Most important - regular maintenance and countless replacement parts installed by Jimmy at Street Performance. He is the reason my car is still running as well as it is today.

    Light bar installed.
It took longer than I expected....
The RHO plate bolt broke off when taking off the plate so we had to drill out the bolt and use a self tapping bolt in its place.

The Aluminum bars are S bent and bolted on the top cross bar (existing holes on gen1, bolt threaded up), and to the bottom through the skid plate. Its Hard to see in pictures but the bottom of the bracket was brought forward in order to get the hanging light bar to shine level.

So far so good, I'm really happy with it so far and I hope it holds up well. (I'm getting really good at removing that damn bumper)

    I'll take better shots tomorrow.
It's not the prettiest, I knew that before I started. Just to slow rust and cut out the rot. The car's paint is F'd anyways so yeah.

I will try to blend it in a bit better tomorrow.

    Before:

    During

    After.

    End results:

Masked areas were done along the body lines of the car. I don't really mind how it looks, even though its a hard edge, better than Rust.

The door sucks, I'll see what else I can do there, hopefully buff the f*** out of it .

The fender was Swiss cheese. I should have prevented this a while ago. I cut out an inch infront of the wheel with my angle grinder, and that anoying inner lip. The metal was gone.

    Steps I used:

    Masking
    Angle grinder
    Sanding
    Bondo
    Sanding
    Primer
    Sanding
    More primer
    Sanding
    Paint
    Clear coat

    Would I recommend this: no.
If you have the money, do it professionally.
I didn't want to spend $$$$ on it (car not worth much).
I'm happy with the results being very cost effective.

I couldn't look at the rust anymore.

    Not a bad job considering....

A few more coats of paint with some light wet sanding would have made the paint come out a little better. (More time needed obviously)

A light buffing might help it look a tad better though.

Not bad. Painting cars is always challenging. Can’t see the rust so that’s a plus. Next time look into blending the paint and clearcoat so you don’t have a line. Now do some compounding and polishing. Then a wax or sealant.

The door still looks like ass

It'll get me through the winter and hopefully slow the rust. I'll likely repaint both doors next year using better paints (duplicolour sucks) and a better technique.

Not happy with the results but I'm happy I cut out the fender rot. It would have been a lot worse next year. It was also really cheap in comparison to what I was quoted from a few shops. Not spending that kind of money on my car.

    Meh.

The person who suggested I fix the rust, made me ruin my paint. Didn't end well.

I'll try the door again this Friday.

Hahaha. Glad it wasn't me who suggested it.

You can buff most that paint off with a compound and proper pad. Just don't go over the area which had the actual repair with it, use a light compound and pad.

    Door v2 complete.

I'll buff and polish later this weekend.

4 coats paint, 4 coats clear coat.
I'm happy with it. I would have bought the 2K clear coat for a more professional job but it retails around $89-100 per can before shipping. Duplicolour will do.

Trunk is next. It is scratched to hell on the top and I can fill in the emblem holes for that badgeless look.

.... I'm going to end up slowly repainting my whole car....

Graffiti pics, driving around downtown this morning. Couldn't get anything good from graffiti alley behind queen. It's all in the shade as the buildings are too tall, and the hobos were out in force this morning.
By 10AM there are already multiple photoshoots in that Alley - full frame DSLRs, strobes, reflectors and everything.

Also the roads are sketchy to say the least. Not for low cars. I was bottoming out on prokits....

i tell you a little trick for blending. fold 1/3 of the tape over to the halfway point and put the folded section over where you want to blend, its gonna fume in under the tape there and you wont have that solid line.
