I've had some clunking in the rear end for a while that I've been trying to sort out and couldn't find what it is. Had checked near on everything and all looked good and was tight. So since I still have my extended warranty on the car I decided to remove my Corksport RSB (only suspension mod), put the stocker back on and take it in to Mazda to deal with.

Well...as I'm cleaning up I notice something a little odd.

Anyway, I'm long since out of warranty on this bar and it's the old version I'm not expecting Corksport will do anything about it. Might give em' a call Monday just to see what's up but figured if anyone else runs into this it's just good info to have out there.

msg corksport and tell em about it. mine literally broke while driving down the street. i took pics and proved that i paid for it 2 yrs previously and that it was their first generation bar. they sent me a brand new one in a few days, no questions asked.

So, CS wouldn't warranty it (and rightly so) but had a scratch and dent bar they sold me for a good price.

Figured since I have a new bar on the way, I should try straightening out the old one.

I'm not sure morally I feel good selling it, although I guess if people know its history it's no big deal? Either way once the new bar comes in, I'll post this and probably my old cpe intake/inlet and maybe a set of moog front end links.

its garbage. throw it out. if ur gonna sell it to another member, and they use it cause theyre cheap, might cause an accident, who knows.

It was not bent in the way the force is typically applied to the bar...and we all realize sway bars twist a bit everytime they have force applied to them anyway. There's a lot of places in a cars suspension that metal is bent/flexed under normal use. It's also no different than a frame being straightened after an accident...nothing unsafe about that. Hell, there is a pile of stamped steel parts on a car that are bent during their manufacturing.

In any case, I haven't decided if I think it's a good idea to sell or not...but don't poop on this thread with speculation.

first off, im not pooping on this thread. second, i have first hand experience to this particular issue with cs rear sway bar gen 1s.
eventually it will break due its design and it being semi hollow. i am not speculating on whether or not its safe. thats up to you to decide for yourself.

btw, ive been meaning to ask you, were u at an open lapping event recently at cayuga? i was lapping with a speed3 that fits ur cars description.

The weld issue is different than what I experienced and didn't affect every bar that was made with this design. Corksport said they had never seen one of the original bars bend like mine did.


And nope, my car has never been tracked and I've never been to cayuga.

I'm sure there are some bars out there bent like mine, I didn't figure it out until I took it off the car and just had a notion when it was sitting on the bench that it might be a bit off.

No matter what, it's bad that it bent. Will never know why though.

lol, it had a trailer hitch and was a black gen 2 speed3. fairly stock looking, and a nooby driver behind the wheel. wouldnt let me pass for 2 laps before i made it even more evident that he was slower, by hugging his bumper by a foot.
