@drkpsngr - Sorry to hear about your situation. I've been victim to a break-in myself, and it changes you forever. Doesn't your car have a factory-installed alarm system? I thought all modern Mazdas came with one. I know mine has one (2012 Mazda3 Sky) because I set it off unintentionally. I locked the car using my keyless remote while I was still sitting inside it; I then unlocked the car using the button on the door, which triggered the alarm system. Scared the hell out of me because I wasn't expecting it.
just got my owners manual out... and went thru the section on the anti theft system. it sure does work...I was easily able to set it off... sooooo I wonder how the hell the creep got in??? you are right it does change you. I haven't been sleeping well. I keep getting up to peek out the window to see if anyone is around! they probably wont be back to my car seeing they only got $2! my hubby's truck is a different story! I've become very skilled at peeking thru the curtains without moving them! lol
Jeez! People must be loosing their minds to do these types of things!

The owner's manual says if you lock the car by manually turning the door-lock knob, it doesn't arm the system. You have to either lock the car using the keyless remote or pressing the lock button on the door. Or it's possible the thief somehow acquired the electronic signal when you locked the car using your keyless remote. I saw something on the news about that.
LOL @ becoming skilled at peeking through the curtains! It's definitely a skill we all obtain after a break-in.
Sorry to hear! hope everythings okay, crazy people these days..
