    Default Cruise control for GX

    Hi everybody,

I got 2011 Mazda 3 Sport GX with no cruise, bluetooth etc. base model with automatic transmission. I was wondering if anyone has a link to where I can get cruise and bluetooth installed besides Mazda dealership or even where to order parts to install myself? I know for steering wheel controls it's better to give to a licensed mechanic because it involves removing airbag. Suggestions? Thank you.

Cruise has to be done through the dealership I believe.

You mean the activation or installation part?

Paging @Reddie1337. He installed a GT wheel with cruise buttons and audio controls on my 2011 GX, then I took it to the dealership for a $60 activation that took less than half an hour.

I have done that. Activation has to be done through the dealer. I was looking for one for @Hyperion as well. It's very simple.

Yep @Reddie1337 was able to hook me up with the buttons. Pretty easy to install just need to remove the wheel and air bag - just disconnect your battery overnight so you feel safe to remove the airbag. You actually may be able to work around it I'm not sure, I just took mine out.

I took it to the dealer after it was installed and only cost me $55 (half hour labour) and it was done.

I didn't for my 2012. Something tells me that MAYBE only the 2010's were the only 2nd gens that needed it. But then again it may be fine.

Answer is definitely out there, just Google it because I know I found it in multiple places.

Great news. Thx. I am going to do the same plus AVIC-5000NEX from Pioneer with carplay from http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POC...n/AVIC-5000NEX. I feel it's gonna be awesome.

The first gen's only need the brake switch. The dealer doesn't have to turn it on. The second gen's, don't need the brake switch, and they have to be turned on by the dealer.

yeah i did my Gen1 and ordered a leather GT wheel with controls and brake switch off ebay for about $80 total. that was a breeze to do. For my 2011GX i installed the wheel and the audio controls work good, i just need to get it turned on at the dealer.

Unfortunately the dealerships in the warren/detroit area had no idea what i was talking about and said they'd want to change me a full hours labor to try it out. Guess i'll have to do it next time i'm back in toronto. Just wanted to confirm that there was no brake switch needed in addition to dealer turn on

Someone posted a similar experience with the dealer claiming not knowing what to do. Its almost 5 years that gen 2's have been out.

I actually printed out the instructions I found online in case my dealer tried to convince me it was a long process. Id advise you do the same.

AFAIRemeber, they hook out up to the computer, select the speed icon, choose cruise and select enable, then wait 5-10 mins for the changes to be saved.

Boom done and less than half hour labour.

Thanks. Too bad the software isn't available. I know some people with the software for bmw and can turn on the options themselves. I have the hardware to interface, just need some software to tinker. I have software for two other car makers

So if I already have the wheel can I use this http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2010-2013-Maz...7310e8&vxp=mtr for my 2011 GX?

BTW anyone got a steering wheel for sale with cruise? I'd rather buy locally than from ebay.

It should still plug into the harness on the wheel. That's the button arrangement on my 2011 that I retrofit.

All done. Received the buttons and it took me about 30 minutes to install them. I went to YorkdaleDufferin Mazda dealership and they activated cruise control for $55. Works like a charm.
Now I also have bluetooth buttons, but they don't work, since the bluetooth is not pre-installed by default. I asked the dealership if it is possible to order one, but apparently Mazda doesn't sell oem modules for 2011 models. Would it be wise to find an oem module on eBay or just go with aftermarket head unit? Also if aftermarket, is there alternative to idatalink maestro rr to keep functions of the steering wheel buttons?

If you go with aftermarket, you may be able to utilize a joycon. I have one to let me control my tablet in my dash.

This could be a good starting point

There is a wiring harness for aftermarket decks that allows you to keep your steering wheel functionality. The name is Axxess... Think they are different for each car. Crutchfield.ca will let you know which one is for your car though.

I have no idea if the buttons for Bluetooth will work since your car didn't come stock with them, but the volume buttons certainly will.
