Default Group 24F Kirkland batteries back at Costco!!

Looks like the 24F has made a come back to Costco! I was at the Warden Avenue location today in Scarlem and was surprised to see the 24F. I am sure @TheMAN will be pleased given his passion for the 24F and our rides!

My 2010 Sport 2.0L appears to have the 35 size and @TheMAN has mentioned in numerous threads here that the 24F will fit in the battery box (not Gen3's). Below images show the 24F and 35 side by side.

Above shows 24F (left) and 35 (right)

Next time I will have to find a scale in Costco to weigh the two to see how much heavier the 24F is over the 35. You can see that currently at this location (and time) the 24F is cheap at $84.99. Size 35 was $79.99!

Looks like plenty of room in the 2010 box as you say:

    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]
@TheMAN in the above pic is that extra space at the bottom of the tray to accommodate the wider 24F? There is a bit of space on the negative side of the battery as well. Guess it will fit snug?

LOL. Nah. I'm not a shareholder either, but maybe you are on to something!

Now we all can easily see the difference between the two types/sizes and get them at a cheap price at the same time!

    that is correct
and there's still some air gaps between the box and the bigger battery to allow for air flow on the genwon (has cooling duct, deleted in genpu)

Thanks and I know it will last a while since I am still using my stock battery on my 2008 Mazda3.

I'm thinking of swapping my 2014 battery out because I have a dash cam with motion detector. My dash cam has built power shut off when the voltage on the battery reaches 12V. When I had the camera installed a few months ago, it would record when it detects motion. Just this month, I have noticed the camera has been shutting down which tells me the battery is reaching 12V so I'm concerned and don't want a dead battery when winter approaches.

So does anyone know if this Kirkland 24F battery will fit properly in the 2014 Mazda3?

Kirkland 24F battery LxWxH 10-15/16 x 6-7/8 x 8-11/16. Just measure your battery box to see it fit.

If you're powering a dash cam, I would recommend looking into an AGM battery instead of liquid acid battery. AGM batteries don't get as upset by deep-cycling (but can't hold as much over-all charge).

I believe that @TheMAN indicated in his many threads that the 24F will only fit gen1 and gen 2.

    24f you say?

How about being a big boy and going with a 34/78 dual terminal for all your needs hehehe.

800+ CCA, + a better warranty on most major brands.

Big batteries are no issue at all in the Gen2, i run a 34/78 and start without an issue in -45.

    that's basically the same size
CCAs are not everything... cell density and electrolyte to cell ratio matters... high CCA batteries require thinner cell plates (high cell density) and displacing the amount of electrolyte (less of it) to achieve this... for very cold climates that's fine as it's needed... for warmer climates, no because heat will cause faster electrolyte evaporation and it'll also damage/wear out the cells quickly.... the only way to offset this effect is a physically larger battery, that's partly why batteries bigger than a group 35 have higher CCA but lasts longer.... many "premium" group 35 batteries claim to have high CCA and have done so by packing it with thinner plates.... not so necessary with a bigger battery to do the same

not all batteries are the same, even if it's the same type at the same size... they're built for different climates in mind or they're built as a compromise between the extremes
the kirkland group 24F will be fine

actually, AGM batteries require fast charge to desulfate it, per batteryfaq.org

On the initial charge absolutely, but I believe with subsequent charges the slow charge works better. I'm assuming ofcourse his Optima battery has been drained from once being fully charged...It's an ongoing debate actually, which works best.
