    Default Oil Filter Types

i was at Part Source and was looking for an oil filter for 2012 Mazda 3 2.0 GS (non-skyactiv)

there are 5 types of Fram part #s to chose from and 2 Mobil 1 oil filters...(WTF)

i ended up buying the Mobil M1-102. there was a short M1-108 filter, but that wasnt the one, or is compatible??? lol

what oil filters do you guys use, if youre not servicing at the dealership

"OEM" is a rebadged Purolator (no relation to the courier service)
Fram has multiple kinds because of different grade qualities... out of all of them, only the "Ultra" (replaced Extended Guard) is decent like they used to make them decades ago.... but it's nothing spectacular, so better money spent on Purolator PureOne, WIX, Mobil1 or K&N since it's not cheap either

I use the M1-102 on my 2.0 non sky so I can confirm that its the right size filter.

Mobil 1 filter with Mobil 1 0w20. No real preference but its my favourite name to choose from at Can Tire.

Anyone use quaker state oil filers?
Saw that CT now sells cartridge type filters for the 2.3L mazda 3. Managed to get the last one in stock at dufferin & 407 location today.

Just wondering if they're good quality and if they compare to the OEM Mazda ones. They were on sale for 4.49 plus tax. Its about half of what OEM ones sell for at Mazda. Anyone know who makes them? I think it might be purolator... At least I think I heard that somewhere before.

    Opinions?

I've used them on an intrepid and a RAV4. Both times the seal leaked.

First time I thought I double-gasket it, but I didn't. Second time it made out about 3000 kms before it started leaking from the seal again.

This is just my experience I'm speaking of, but I'll stick with M1 on my Mazda and Fram and my pos Dakota.

I will never use a QS filter ever again. On my other car (spin on) I was in a pinch and needed a filter. Normally I use Mahle (OEM) It went on fine but when I went to remove it a week later and replace it with an OEM one it was threaded to the nipple so tight that it unscrewed out of the housing! That has never happened ever since I've owned the car. Not sure how the cartridge ones are though.

they make them out of the recycled boxes they have.. lol dunno i never use them. but since my change from mazda to Hyundai I now use K&N filters for both cars.. and why you may ask.. because I can get them cheaper then OEM. figure that out.. but if its a better filter then that's a win win

Mahle never supplied to Mazda oil filters for the MZR motors, however they do supply filters for older Mazda engines in Europe... they are not factory filters however
in any case, they're high quality and I'd use them any day... still have a huge stash of Mazda branded ones for the protege

The Tokyo Roki ones? Mazda is selling them again. (B6Y1-14-302A) No more blue filters. Not sure why they went back.

The nice thing about them is they fit Honda's and Nissan's too.
