    Question Rust Repair

    Hey guys,

I'm just wondering if anyone's had their rear quarter panel on their Mazda3 Gen1 repair (rust issue) and how much that cost ya?

I have rust on the rear left tail light on the trunk lid, rear right quarter panel, and a bit of rust is starting on the rear right door lol.. it's not looking good for my lil zoom zoom.

    Most people have done it.

When Mazda paid to redo my quarters it was 1800 both sides, but they had to do it twice before it stayed away, 1800 each time.

So these are the areas that I want to fix.. $1,800 sounds like A LOT.. almost not worth it for an '06 :\

Honestly, you can do a cheap fix but it will be back.

Depends how much it bugs you, and how long you are keeping the car.

Did they cut out and replace the panels for 1800?

Mine isn't as bad as the pictures above, but it's gotten worse over the winter. I'm thinking about getting it done right or just leave it

Mazda should make the rear quarter-panels separate from the body of the car so that they can be replaced.. I don't know why so many automakers don't do that.. it would be an easy fix if that QP's were removable.

I took my car in to look "Hoffman Motors" 346 Munster Ave, Etobicoke, ON M8Z 3C5 (416) 766-8234, my rust situation was much better than your's we were at ~$600 but i just had the rust on the rear part of the wheel where the bumber connects to the body. And mine is very minor.

Removable quarters would have an unbecomming seam somewhere.

The second $1800 repair got new metal.

My rust was never as bad as the OPs.

It's going to get real ugly come the next winter.. not sure if I want to drop >$1000 to fix it or if I should just get a new car.. CX-5 is my next pick.. big fan of the interior in the 2016 GT model.

Unless all the rust is cut out and new metal welded in forget it, I personally wouldn't spend $1800 to fix rust on an 06. Drive it into the ground the way it is, save money toward a newer car.

Different strokes. If the cars paid off and otherwise fine do you really need a new car?

    That's a rhetorical.

Eternal torment with rust. I don't what to say to you, if you wan't to drive this car, for example 5 more years then repair it. If you plan to change it then you don't need this investment.

The other alternative is to try to fix it yourself. Get some sandpaper, rust converter, rust primer and rust paint. That should do the trick. What do you think?
