Exclamation Backup camera with Eonon GA5163

I'll keep this clear and concise.

Bought a D5163Z with a backup camera, the touchscreen switched to the camera when I put the car in reverse. Camera function was perfect but the unit itself was a piece of crap running WinCE so I sent it back to Eonon and got the GA5163 as a replacement. It's an Android unit so it's much faster, stable, and customizable. Unfortunately, the backup camera is not being triggered anymore. Didn't work with the stock firmware, so I flashed to a custom ROM and it still won't work which leads me to believe it's not a software issue. The reverse switch function is built-in if I'm not mistaken and I've tried connecting the cam input cable into every possible video port in the unit.

Anyone dealt with something like this before?

i have this GA5151 which is the first gen version and I couldn't get my back-up camera working either. I've been searching the mazda3forums and someone mentioned that you need to make a connection to the reverse light so that the unit knows that the car is in reverse. i havent had time to test this out myself but i will soon.

Thanks a lot man, I posted on the MS3 forums and someone there mentioned the red camera cable needs to be plugged in somewhere. I stripped a loose reverse-in wire, touched them together and voila! Reverse camera kicked in.

    All good now

@Captain Mazda i'm looking at ordering the camera for my Gen1. Is yours mounted down above the license plate? i was looking at one that replaced a plate light

but my worry is that it's too low to the ground, so i was thinking of putting on inside the hatch below the centre brake light instead. But if it's good low down above the plate in teh bumper i'll go with that

Mine is mounted above the license plate and the view is fine. I believe @Reddie1337 has the plate light replacement version and he's happy with it.

that is the place where I have mine installed on 2 gen hatch, inside, under the stop light, it stays clean all the time. I have it wired to a switch and I can control it anytime I want to.
