Default Mazda 6, any point to it?

Hello, my wife and I are trying to decide on a new car, she is a sedan person I suppose, we drove a 2016 Mazda 6 gs with the luxury package yesterday and it was ok, I found it to be under powered, but it's going to be her car and she doesn't car about that. We haven't driven a 3, but when I look at a 2015 Mazda 3 gt with the luxury package, it's cheaper than the 6 gs we drove, and I assume it rides about the same? With maybe a little more power to0 with the 2.5 in a smaller car? If the front seats provide about the same space and the equipment is about the same or better with the 3, what am I actually getting when buying a 6? More rear leg room and a trunk?

The 6 isn't much slower than the 3. The difference in weight is about 150 lbs, it's like 3 with an extra person. That's why Car and Driver tested both and they both trap about 91 mph in the quarter mile, and run it 15.6 - 15.8 seconds.

edit: it shouldn't really feel underpowered, unless you're coming from a faster vehicle. It does OK, and actually given the fuel economy, is doing quite well. The Accord Sport is faster, though, and provides similar fuel economy.

Ok, thanks, I didnt realize the weight was so close, the difference in cost is substantial of course, im just not sure the extra space is worth it since they seem to be the same otherwise. I think im looking for an excuse to buy the 3, when i know my wife wants the 6.

@ald I have owned both a Mazda 6 and a Mazda 3 over the years. The 6 was nice and seemed to have plenty of more room and a slightly softer ride. However, for me the 3 is the winner hands down. Especially if you go with a hatch. It is just a more versatile car overall. The 3 was also cheaper for me to insure through Meloche Monnex.

If she likes the 6, the Mercedes Benz CLA250 is similarly priced. Have you look at that by chance?

No we haven't, we are a few hours north of the city so our selection is a bit limited, we are going to try a few other sedans, but it think she wants the mazda, so maybe we will give the 3 a shot after she inevitably rejects the others for one reason or another.

Well the way I see it, you can't go wrong with a Mazda. They are all great looking and fun cars to drive. Maintenance is relatively affordable as well.

Good luck with whatever you end up buying!

Had to check for myself, you're right! Mazda6 GS with Luxury package is at $31K, the CLA starts at $34K.

...and the Mazda6 has far superior interior materials. The CLA45 is good, because of the powerplant under the hood (who can say no to 355hp in a compact?), but the interior materials aren't all there yet. Give them another year or two to refresh it... until then, Audi A3.

If you buy and keep a Mercedes long term you are gonna get killed on maintainable costs. The Mazda 6 would be a much better bet.

I have a '14 Mazda 6 6MT GS and love it. Upgraded from a '11 MZ3 6MT. Like it much better. More room and a much more comfortable ride. The GPS system sucks, but I'm glad I upgraded.

Depends on what you want for styling too. The 3 definetly looks way better/sportier imo. Sedan vs sedan. We would've bought a 6 for the room but it seemed to old person car to me and I'm forty. Lol. My wife wouldn't even test drive the 6.

All this is pure opinion and worth squat so don't bother to let it bother you if it does.

No no, I LOVE the CLA45. I've told you this before; it's an animal. The CLA250 though, is far inferior and I'd have any or most mainstreamers over it. The Honda Accord Sport, the Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited, the Mazda6 GT are all better choices. The CLA45 is a real AMG product, but the 250 isn't a Benz in my eyes.

This is a misconception... keep in mind Benzo will offer you no-charge 4-year maintenance, as with BMW and Audi.

can anyone confirm if the Mazda6 will be a lot quieter than a 2013 Mazda3 on rough pavement/concrete?

In my post I said if you plan on keeping it long term you will get killed on maintenance costs. Most European makes like MB BMW And Audi seem to go rapidly downhill after 4 or 5 years. Plus there is no such thing as no charge, you can be sure you are paying for it somewhere.

It's fine, because in 4-5 years most Mazdas will be rusted beyond recognition, Hondas will be stolen, Volkswagens will be displaying Check Engine Lights...

So if we read between the lines, essentially you are saying to get the Subaru Legacy.

Mazda6 also has amazing incentives on them right now..

$750 stackable finance cash along with 0% up to 4 yrs..

    5 yrs is 0.49%
    6 yrs is 0.99%
    Damn you photobucket.....

I wanted to get a 6 myself, and I test drove both. M6 and M3. I was surprised by how well the 3 behaved, comfort and all. I ended up liking it more than the 6 so I got me a 3 hatch and I love it.

But it all comes down to your personal preference really.

Ha! No, I'm saying every car has its faults. My picks in the midsize segment are the Mazda6, Honda Accord and Kia Optima. The Legacy is pretty good if AWD is a must, but the interior appointments/efficiency on the Mazda and the chassis of the Accord are superior.
