    Default Android Auto HU?

I'd like to put an aftermarket double din head unit with Android Auto on my 08 hatch. From the research I've done so far it seems that Pioneer and Kenwood are the only ones out there now and they are both pretty expensive still as I think they are mining the early adopter angle. A few questions:

-does anybody have an aftermarket android auto HU installed and how is it?
-are there any other options? I've seen lots of units that run android as the OS but I am guessing they aren't as slick as a true android auto system. Also concerned about support/upgrades with the cheaper units. Are the pure android units any good? If so, what units?
-I am also thinking that in another year or so (or maybe even at xmas) that more aftermarket android auto units are going to come to market and that prices will come down. Opinions?

    Thanks!

I've heard good things about the Pumpkin units. I'm looking to get one for my passat and if i like it i may take the tablet out of my mazda and get another.
some of the VW Vortex guys are using this and the Youtube videos look pretty good

Not sure if they do android auto, but some of them support mirror link. Although being an android device, if you had a hotspot, just sign into your Gmail account on it and you'd have everything synced anyways.

Hmmm looks interesting. Keep us updated if you get one. Any other options I could consider? Anybody have an android auto unit installed?

I have the Eonon GA5151 and its an OK unit but it comes with issues out-of-the-box that I had to spends lots of time reading up on to fix and even then there are still some outstanding. It a nice unit though with a good android experience but I wish it was more integrated with the car. there's now a newer version of it with Android 4.4 (mine has 4.3). I believe Android Auto was designed to be integrated into oem systems so there prob won't be much aftermarket support at least early on.

Thanks trulankan. I've been looking at the eonon units and I'm mostly scared off as I don't want to have to troubleshoot on my own as I dont have time with two young kids.

Go alpine. Expensive? Yes but it's worth it. I've got one that's 4 years old and works fantastic. And does everything I need it to do. My last deck was a single din alpine and it was awesome too and still running great in my buddies car.

I just bought the Pumpkin android unit for my passat.
    http://www.autopumpkin.com/pumpkin-q...-1024-600.html

everything was plug and play and worked right out of the box. Steer wheel controls worked fine. The iGo maps aren't bad. I'll use Google maps primarily but when i don't have a data connection, it'll help.
Boot up time isn't bad, about 30 seconds, and things seem to run pretty smooth so far. Bluetooth phone interface takes some getting used to, and hopefully i can set up google now on it to properly use voice commands. It's only been a week or so but so far we like it. I ordered a backup camera, so when that arrives i'll hook it up and when its back apart i'll figure out where to route the USB port for media devices. Also screen mirroring works perfectly. Its quick. I need to look into compatible data sticks. i may add another line to my phone plan just to have data always in the car.

Forgive the poor night pics, i'll probably take more and then do a proper review thread

    Thanks for posting.

This is the unit that would fit my 08.

I was looking at that for my 2004. My concern is with it lagging being slow. My work phone (motorola razr m) (former as of last week when i got an iphone) had the same specs as that, 1.6 dual core, 1 gb ram and 8GB of space. and trying to run android 4.4 is a nightmare on that thing. Hopefully there's some demos of that specific one

it's been about a month and my wife loves it. When i suggested getting one for my car she said yes. Still am against the dual core that you linked, so for $244 shipped (5% off coupon code "pumpkin") i got a universal double din, then for $6 shipped i have an ISO to Mazda harness coming from the UK and just ordered a back up camera for my car for $10. Once her backup camera parts arrive wednesday i'll do a full review thread of the product.

The one i bought. Arrived in Ohio this morning (ordered last tuesday) so should be here tomorrow or wednesday
I like that it comes with an external mic and the nav already.

I've been looking at the pumpkin quad cores. So @ryan2.3 I'll be very interested in your review when you post it.

looks like Eonon has their version of the one i bought for my mazda. exact same as my autopumpkin it looks like, pretty sure infographics are the same. At least their regular price is what i paid after i used the pumpkin coupon code
    http://eonon.com/Car-GPS/Android-Car-GPS/GA2114.html

haven't installed it yet because i'm waiting on the ISO to mazda adapter. should get here monday or so. This weekend i may rip out the old system and run the camera wiring, GPS and whatnot in advance. so i can test and put up some pics and reviews right away
