    Question OEM HID Replacement

So the other day I noticed one of the OEM HIDs (drivers side) on my 2006 GT sedan started to flicker a bit as it turned on while emitting a red-ish light colour hue for a couple of seconds before burning out permanently

I was wondering if there would be a simple trick or method to figure out whether it's the ballast or the bulb that I need to replace in this case? As of right now I'm assuming that my ballast has blown (Correct me if I may be wrong). If this is in fact the issue here, I could also use some suggestions on how to locate another OEM Phillips ballast(s) because I don't feel like replacing my OEM lights with an aftermarket set. If it makes any difference I also have CCFL Angel Eyes installed in the headlights but they are working problem-free at the moment.

Any further information or suggestions on how I could remedy the situation would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Sorry - I meant to post this under the Lighting subsection of the forums. If someone could move it over for me that would also be great.

    EDIT - Thanks!

What you describe are the symptoms of a failing HID bulb.

Its the bulb. Just like any bulb when they die they do the exact same thing you mentioned. Even a light bulb in your house.

swap the bulb with the other side to confirm ballast or bulb

I previously had a set of Morimoto's from The Retrofit Source:
    http://www.theretrofitsource.com
They lasted almost 7 years, so no complaints about them. They have high-K bulbs if that is what you are after.

I bought my latest set from Amazon:
    http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00265FXFY
Which are the same as the OEM bulbs that came with my car.

Note: you can get cheap $15 dollar bulbs. There are good reasons they are so cheap.

Alright so I got a Philips D2S bulb from CT for $67 (regularly $99 + tax). I will be installing it at some point next week & hopefully this will resolve my headlight issue.

Thanks for the help everyone - I will keep you all posted on whether or not it works out.

So I ended up replacing the bulb a few weeks ago and it turns out you guys were right - it was in fact a bulb-related issue. The old HID bulb I had actually broke open right along the bottom, which would explain why it suddenly stopped working.

I have the new bulb in now and the headlights on the vehicle are back to working as advertised.

Thanks again for the input everyone!
