As much as a lot of people are hoping its the resurrection of the rotary, I'm not too convinced of that yet. Specially based on the recent reports from Mazda when asked that question. So I'm thinking more along the lines of a BRZ/FRS competitor maybe. Who knows, could be either. Definitely interested to see more details though. At least they're doing something. Now if only they released some more news about the next gen Speed3..

Very good to hear Mazda is working on something. Could this be the RX-9?

I remember rumors of Mazda making a sports coupe based off the miata platform or a miata coupe. I hope that's the case.

I wouldn't mind seeing something other than a speed 3 if it's a decently powered sports car...the problem with the miata and fr-s and such are they're underpowered. Give me something light and 250+ hp please.

Most are saying it's going to be a Mazda take on the FRS so to speak. Might have something to do with Toyota and Mazda partnering up recently, who knows.

they already have a BRZ/FR-S competitor.... the Miata

I feel like this will be more upscale than that and the price gap will be bigger between this and the miata to avoid the two competing against each other.

although this is coming from the same company thats jumped on the crossover bandwagon and creating several different crossovers each a bit smaller than the one before it.

That shape is properly gorgeous. The source says possible unviel at the Tokyo auto show next month. I think it will be revealed later on to not take away from the NDs popularity, or not revealed as all because it may just be a concept. Really nice looking though.

The source was a Mazda press release? So we will see it at the end of this month.

I really hope Mazda brings back the Rotary, without a turbo this time. The 12a and NA 13b were bulletproof compared to the Turbo II's.

Wait for the Abarth variant of the Fiat 124/Mazda MX5 twins.
As for what will power the Abarth roadster, a detuned version of the Alfa Romeo 4C’s 237bhp 1.75-litre turbocharged engine is the current front runner, producing around 200bhp. In a car that’s unlikely to be heavier than a tonne, that’s enough for an identical power-to-weight ratio to the Porsche Boxster GTS, so a 0-62mph sprint time of around five seconds flat is feasible.
WTF happened to the 2016 MX5 thread (linky)?

I REALLY want to see a new rotary but I also doubt that's what this is. Could be the MX5 PRHT? Members on the MX5 forum who participated in the focus group for the PRHT design say it's a radical departure from the soft top..

The latest rumor is that it will have a rotary/hybrid engine, but is not an RX replacement. Think Cosmo Sport from the 1990s .

That looks nice. Not sure about the front/headlights as it looks a bit like a squished Merc SLS but the rear & profile are fantastic.

Mention of a hybrid Mazda 3...and another CUV concept too.

As for this RX, the proportions aren't quite right, hood is just a smidge long.
