I haven't taken one out on the 3, but I think it's about the same as on other Mazdas. Take our all the upper pillar trims. Remove sun visors, and interior lights. Pull out the trim around the sun roof. Remove any remaining trim clips. Pull the headliner down and out.

I'm not sure if they do but do any of the pillars have to come off?

If so beware of the airbags OP as they can go off if not dealt with properly.

I'm pretty sure they do, as the headliner tucks in behind them (albeit only by 5mm or so). But to bring it down without folding it much the pillars need to be out of the way.

Although you need to be aware of the airbags, you can generally pull the trim out without doing anything special. However if you want to be extra safe, disconnect the battery and step on the brake pedal for 10s to drain any residual power in the system.

I'm just giving anyone who may not be knowledgeable with airbags a heads up as it can be costly and dangerous to have one accidentally go off.

You can knock against or bump an airbag all day long, it's not going to go off 99.99% of the time without a malfunction. It needs an electrical current or something such as a fire to set it off

I know that. Again, if people do anything without a little knowledge or care, for sure something will happen lol.

headliners are pretty easy, aitch nailed it bang on, i removed my a pillars but only bent my b and c pillars back enough to get my headliner out, other then that trims/ weatherstrips/ lights/ etc. 15-20 mins and its out.

I did mine today. I took pilars off to dye them blacka s well

Sunroof has 2 push tabs at the front that need to be slightly push to allow 1 st bypass of sliders. Then only 1 x-mas tree pin holding it in on the passenger side at the rear / sunroof slides out “ cloth part”

    Proof
