Default Should I buy a warranty on a used Speed3?

    Hi everyone,

I just purchased a 2010 MazdaSpeed3 with 89k on it. The car is very clean and everything seems to work fine. Just wondering if it is worth it to buy a 4 year warranty for roughly $2000 or take my chances without it? Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I would but read what it covers. The car is 6 years old already.

It covers everything. I just got the service history and it's been maintained. The guy I spoke with said that he would not buy a Speed3 without a warranty. I may as well just get it for piece of mind.

I'm on my second speed. I had a 2010 and now a 2013. I've had 0 problems with either car but I don't keep cars very long. When I bought the 2010 I had intended to keep the car forever so I got the extended. I think you did he right thing.

I have a 2011 speed3. I did not walk out of that dealership without warranty.

If you plan on doing major mods, I would say its a waste of money. If you plan on keeping it stock, then buy the warranty.

Does it actually cover everything? Like even suspension? Is there a deductible? I know the extended warranty I got with my car when I bought it (it was purchased by the previous owner, I got it for free) had such a high deductible that it meant that if I ended up having $2000 worth of fixes that by some miracle were actually covered, I would have $2000 worth of deductibles to pay.

That little bit of info was buried in the fine print. It rendered the whole warranty useless and not worth the money. In the end nothing broke anyway.
Canada gave us rust and DRL. Thanks for nothing Canada!

Apparently it covers the engine, turbo, tranny, transfer case, drive axle, front wheel steering, brakes, electrical, power accessories, a/c, fuel system, front and rear suspension, heating/cooling system and emission. That's everything listed from the paperwork I have. The deductible is $200.

For what it's worth, I bought a 2008 Speed3 used in 2011 and have had the car since and have had no issues

    It's lightly modded

A good determinant would be the issues other 2010 MS3 owners have had. @S.F.W. ? Any issues? I think you've left your it mostly stock except for the sound system.

I haven't had any issue, but not so close to stock either
intake/inlet pipe/downpipe, guardian angel(for peace of mind)/custom tune on the engine side. right around 300 WHP now as per the dyno.
Could probably get over the 300 mark if I swapped out the Corksport SRI for one that flowed better, or went with a more aggressive tune.

Bought a 2010 speed3 with extended warranty. I have been diligent with routine maintenance and had zero issues. Also going to be modding mine soon so in hindsight I would have skipped the warranty. I was told the same thing about the turbo and that's what convinced me. But having learned how to drive it properly and gotten to know this car, I am now convinced I likely won't be needing warranty coverage.

Ok so $200. If you do your own work on your car, not worth it. If you don't know how to/don't want to work on your car, get it.

And for reference, my 2008 speed3 has incurred 100$ worth of maintenance costs (for things I couldn't fix myself) that would have been covered by warranty since it was originally purchased.

The OP is buying a used performance car! I owed a 2010 Speed before I got my 2013 and I absolutely drove the hell out of it. What's to say the he's not buying my old car? I had it detailed regularly, maintained on time and parts replaced as soon as they were needed. It was mint when I gave it back......at least it looked mint, who knows about things that you couldn't see.

    Hi everyone.
I bought Mazda 3 sport 2010 with 160K on it year ago and I didn't buy extended warranty because I saw in contract in small print that warranty is not covered parts with natural wear. After 100K all wears are natural. Try to prove a dealer that it's not. Good luck. I have now 200k and didn't changed any parts yet. Mazda 3 is very reliable car.

What that usually means is brakes, struts/shocks, tires, sometimes CV boots - expensive to replace for that little thing. Thats the natural wear and tear.

Not sure how engine mounts are a part of the warranty lol ah well

Never heard of a warranty company that will turn you away after 100k in your odo. As long as you provide all proof of regular maintenance, youre good.

It's with First Canadian Protection Plan. After doing some research, I discovered that they are a third party warranty company. Apparently they use used parts and are a hassle to deal with. All major services have been done to the car and it is in great condition inside and out. I will take my chances without the warranty. Thread closed.

I got offered by the dealer when I lease buy back my Speed (I took over someone's MS3 with good incentive at that time) and I walked away with that offer.
My MS3 was only 70-75k KM and 4 years old (96k allowance). Now it is almost 9 years old with 153k KM. All the non warranty part replacement or repairs are far less than $2000.

Highly recommend it on any used turbo mazdas. but obviously read what it covers/ if mods allowed etc. and keep your oil change/ any maintenance receipts.
i personally scan them into my computer incase i lose the papers or something.
