Suggestion for new summer tires

Are Continental extremecontact dws06 too much for 2010 Mazda 3 2.5?
Are they too good of a tire that my Mazda won't get its full potential out of the tire VS using them on a faster car (ie speed3 or something)?
Just daily commute driving, 50% hwy/local.

Thinking of extremecontacts as new summer tire to replace stock tires.

I don't think you need the ExtremeContacts. Probably too much tire for a Mazda 3. Just get something comfortable and/or cheap with decent contact. Maybe something like the Firehawk Indy500 or something.

I got the ExtremeContacts because I was planning to daily and track my MS3. They are a great tire, but I think for daily driving they are going to have too low of a treadwear to really be economical at all.

Better off spending the money (in my opinion) on a decent set of summers, and a good set of winter tires.

Yep ~ I seconded ~ I used DWS on mine before it's really a good tire,. however looks too much for a non-speed Mazda3, and you wasted gas in pushing this set of tires during daily commute too ~

Im on Hankook V12 evo2 and loving this tire (last year was $100 rebate ,,,,this year $80)
The Indy500 look nice too ($100 rebate in 2019 ) not sure about grip and wear but tread pattern is a duplicate
of BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE003 not sure if its a performance equivalent but definitely less expensive with the same look.

I used Potenza before too ( anyway my Mazda 3 is more than 200k now, so I really did use several sets of tires already... ), great handling and comfortable, however tread wears too fast too...

I am using Pirelli P7 now, very good tires too!

I now have the Potenza RE980 AS and would recommend them as well if you can grab them for a good price. They are very grippy & amazing in the rain so far (2500km). They are a little louder than the older Potenza RE760s or Indy 500s I had but really nice all around.

Forgot to mention that I need 225/40/18 size tires as I plan to put them on mazdaspeed3 (gen2) rims.

Seems like the Pirelli P7 doesn't come in that size.

Treadwear is definitely a factor as I would like these tires to last as long as they can.

I'd choose the Indy 500s. they were better at dry grip and are definitely quieter than the Bridgestone's.
Bridgestone's so far are great in the rain but too loud. louder than my cheap winters

Indy500 treadwear is 340 AA and nicely priced too plus 100$ rebate ...its a no brainer
Maybe not as long lasting as the P7
But in same price / grip tread 320 AA as Hankook V12 evo2 (only $50 rebate this year)
Im due for new summer next year... It will Indy 500 or Hankook Ventus R-S4

Need a new set for my summer wheels but for my 18s set. The Indy 500 seems to be getting a lot of attention.

Anybody suggest a cheaper alternative? I know the they’re currently $6XX at Simpy Tire for 225/40/18.

Going on my 3rd season with my Firestone Indy 500's and still love them! My buddy just bought a set for his Audi and cannot say enough good things about them as well.

And don't forget the $100 rebate (prepaid VISA card) on a set of Indy 500's from April 15 to May 26, 2019!

The P7's are not even in the same class as the Firehawks, so not sure why they are being compared together.

Hmm... I don't understand why we need a set of Ultra High Performence tires for a small size 4 cylinder daily commute car either... It's just over-kill or just wasting money on tires and wasting gas to run these sticky tires...

But IMO if I need a set of tires in this catalogue, I would rather choose P-Zero or DW ( not 4 season DWS, summer only DW)

Oh, I don't know ... running an old set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D2 (225/50ZR16) on my wife's 2012 Sky right now, having that much traction is fantastic. I really love the v-pattern on the tread, aren't many tires left sporting that look. Goodyear really cut back when they brought out the GS-D3, only made in two sizes 315/35ZR17 and 275/40ZR17 ... don't think those will fit lol.
IMO, aesthetically these are the most beautiful tires every crafted. I originally had them on her '85 Firebird, and they are unbelievable in wet and drive. Never hydroplane and corner like on rails. They were stupid expensive, but people spend more to achieve less /shrug
Here is a link, in case anyone hasn't seen these sweet tires ... will get a pic with them on the car once they are installed, still running the winters with the messed up weather lately.
When these are finally bald, I intend to replace them with Toyo Proxes R1R ... but I will decide when the time comes.
I understand that many people prefer a reasonably long tread life, but I tend to focus on maximum traction ... could be that extra grip will be the difference in avoiding a collision.
BTW, if anyone thinks the swept channels are just for looks ... nay nay. I went through standing water at the bottom of the DVP, never even saw it until I hit it because it was completely still and reflecting the pavement ahead. Car dropped from 110 km/h down to about 80 km/h without me even taking my foot off the gas and the tires never left the pavement. The water literally went right over the car (and must have sprayed to the sides like a fire hose), it scared the crap out of me. Figure that it was about 8 inches deep ... not sure how many treads could have evacuated that volume of water and allowed me to maintain control.

Anyone pick up the Indy 500s?

I've narrowed it down to:
Indy 500 - lots of positive reviews, price point seems to be very good, $100 rebate
Pirelli P Zero All season plus - around same price point as indy's, high treadwear rating, $100 rebate

Pirelli P7 - I think is too expensive, too much tire (don't need something this good either?), although has a very high treadwear, maybe even other tires listed above would be too much tire for a non speed mazda3 still?

I had them and liked them on my old car.
Good grip, good in the wet and they wore pretty well for the season I had them. Still looked brand new.

Just dive into reviews on TireRack on the Indy's and Pirelli's, you cant go wrong either way.

When my wife was driving our car last weekend, one of the stock all-season tires (Dunlop SP 5000) started smoking and blew apart. Since our car is coming up on 6 years old, I figured it was a good opportunity to replace them with something better.

I considered going with the summer tire route (e.g. Indy 500's). However my wife tends to drive on some rough roads fairly frequently (e.g. gravel), so I figured that all-seasons are a safer and more durable option.

I went with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. Based on my (very early) experience, they are very good. I had them installed at SimplyTire. They are apparently a discontinued tire, but the new version is not yet available due to COVID. Joe at SimplyTire indicated that he had to ship in two tires from southern Ontario to make the full set of four.
