    Default Spark Plugs - 2012 3 Skyactiv

    Hey all,

Has anyone replaced the plugs in the 3 Sky with aftermarket? I can't justify spending $42 per plug on the OE parts. I got a set of NGK that apparently work with the sky, but the ceramic of the plug is too big for the boot. It's way too tight in there.

Anyone have any luck with aftermarket numbers? I've searched online and haven't found anything concrete other then NGK 4344 - read rumors about theses working, but the nut size is larger then that of the stock plugs.

I would stick to the OEM NGK's. Mazdas tend to get fussy with other plugs.

Maybe I will have too. I was unaware that Mazda's were fussy about plugs. Just need to find them from a 3rd party supplier.

$42 per plug is crazy. I paid about $15 per plug (Nov 2015) for OEM Iridium from the dealer - 2010 MZR 2.0L. Should note that this was with TM3 discount at MoT.

Do the Sky powerplants really uses dramatically different (and more costly) plugs? :/

Have you checked Rockauto.com? NGK iridium $12.87 each plus shipping. I haven't purchased them yet but maybe someone who has can chime in. I intend to purchase some for this summer. Also check out if anyone has a 5% off code.
I have purchased spark plugs from there for my Mitsu Outlander and they have been fine.

I've seen it first hand. (even with the non Skyactiv engines) People put crap Champion or Bosch +4 plugs in and they throw miss fire codes. Put the OEM ones in and everything is fine.

I just put NGK Iridium IX's in my non-sky 2.5 2 weeks ago. Working just fine. I ordered from RockAuto: got 4 x plugs, cabin air filter, engine air filter, rear wiper blade for $80 including taxes / shipping / conversion. Was pretty happy with that even compared to CT / Partsource. You just have to be OK to wait a week for shipping.

That's a steal price for that bundle!
    +1 for RockAuto.

if it's cheap at $12, they're Iridium IX, which are NOT the recommended plugs for the car.... they are iridium tipped only and do not have the platinum ground electrode... they won't last or perform as well as the original plugs... the original plugs are Laser Iridium and DO have the platinum ground electrode... they cost much more but last much longer

    You are absolutely correct...

The NGK Iridium IX are the lessor plug. They are what you'll get if you buy from Rockauto or CT etc. I just called Ajax Mazda the Iridium IX are $14.95, the Laser Iridium's are $27.51 without TM3 discount.

My '05 2.3 GT came with the Laser plugs and the only ones that will perform to over 100k, mind you I don't think those are the same as the Skyactiv type.
