They need to take it two steps further:
    - make it a true fastback a la RX-7
    - mazdaspeed

Some interesting comments from Mazda on their relationship with Fiat for the development of the new MX-5. I wonder if Mazda is looking for a similar partnership for the RX replacement.

    http://www.detroitnews.com/story/bus...iata/86161468/

"“The possibility exists that without our partnership with FCA, there may not have been a business case to produce the fourth-generation MX-5 Miata,” says Robert Davis, Mazda’s senior vice president of U.S. operations."

"The MX-5 is the best-selling two-seat sports car ever with more than 1 million sold since 1989 — but with annual production of just 15,000 cars it’s a relatively low-volume toy. Given the car’s bespoke platform — not shared with any other Mazda — its business case is tenuous. So for the first time in its history, Mazda looked for a partner on Miata production."

It appears that Fiat is working on a fixed roof 124 Coupe...

It will be designed as a fixed roof ( not like the RF )

You think this would ever make it to Canada though?

I've heard that the wind noise with the top down is pretty bad at high speeds.

Curious, with the release of the RF, does this mean the "proper" folding hardtop ( see previous models ) will not be available?

As far as I know both the soft top and RF will both be offered. IIRC the NC MX-5 was a sales split of 50/50 hard top & soft top.

Mazda has decided to keep both.

Each has its own program and price list.

I suspect most RF owners would have the roof on at higher speeds. Apparently the RF is quieter with the roof on than the soft top is when it is closed.
