    Default Newer Mazdas less rust?

Have a 2005 Mazda 3 and it's very rusty and has mechanical issues. Are the newer Mazda 3's less prone to rust if I get one used? Likely 2007-8. Thanks!

Gen 1 is 04'-09' and are overall more problematic, than Gen 2. There are clean later year Gen 1 out there. Just take your time and make sure to go over the car thoroughly.

First Gens - known for rust
Second Gens - seem to be pretty good
Third Gens - some already have rust problems...

My 07 with 180 000km and living in Orillia has no rust and no signs of any. I do take extra care but nothing extreme. I think Mazda attempted to solve the issue for the 07's + but don't quote me on that.

Find one that has been rust proofed since day 1 if you can. Used 2010-2013 or 2014+ Mazda's are more likely to have less owners as they are newer so it would be much easier to check for rust proofing and Regular maintenance.

Used 2004-2008.5 3s nowadays are generally a crap shoot when it comes to rust....

You can find nice ones, it's just getting harder.

No rust on either my 2009 or 2010. I haven't rustproofed but I do wash regularly and spray Rust Check (red and green) liberally in all nooks and crannies in the fall.

My 2010 sedan. had a spot under the reverse light I fixed. then the pillar has a small spot under the tape. meh, but on my wifes 2010 hatch. she has about 3 spots about stone chip side of perforation on the hatch by the mazda 3 emblem. and then under the trunk inside where the bump stops are there is rust around the rings where the bump stops fit..

but hey its a 6 year old car. if they make it to 10 years in decent shape life will be ok. my car has about 136,000km and was rustproofed from day one hers has 125,000 km and was rustproofed after the first year.

Found a 3/4 pinky nail size rust spot on the roof today. pissed about this, started to flake up too.
also a few spots from rock chips seem to have rusted as well around the car. Some in the oddest places (above the door handle, right where the door meets the window), two very similar sized spots like 0.5 cm apart.

Any shop recommendations? Probably will need to get it fixed this summer

Got my '08 speed3 last year with no visible rust anywhere and holes in the doors and stuff leading me to believe it was rustproofed throughout its life so I did it this year in the fall before it got cold and hopefully she'll stay rust free for the next little while

My 08 has had so many rust repairs done that I have lost track on how many times it's gone in (Krowned every year from brand new)

stay away from the 04-09 IMO
