    Default about to hit 100K

    Hey guys,
    need some help.
my 12 speed is about to hit a 100k. which means no more warranty.
While putting my summers on last week I noticed my pads and rotors need to be replaced. ( any advice where to buy the parts from and which brand would you suggest)

as well now I am going to do my own oil changes. which synthetic engine oil do the most of you use on this fourm?

    Thanks Anthony

Rotella T6 is the oil almsot everyone uses. Gives good results in UOAs. I've switched to Liqui-Moly 10w40 and my UOA's have gotten significantly better. But it is much more expensive, and the T6 is proven for this platform. It's the easy and safe choice for our engines.

As far as rotors go, StopTech, Centric, OEM, and EBC are all good bets. As far as pads... there are probably as many opinions as there are owners. The general consensus is that for street, it's hard to beat OEM. Compound is made by Ferrodo IIRC, and it's got great initial bite, good emergency stopping power, but will fade with high heat. If you want a better modulating pad for street and auto-x use, Hawk HPS are a good all around reviewed pad, and Corksport pads also get good reviews. For any street use, avoid track oriented pads. They need heat to work well, which means on the street, when you need them in a panic stop, they will fall on their face and you will end up in someone's trunk.

Pads: Stoptech 309 for amazing DD capabilities while being able to handle autocross and lapping day duties. They only squeak when literally smoking hot, and have excellent bite even in the winter. Been using them for DD, track, autocross on my C30 since 2013, on both N/A 3 and speed 3 calipers.

    Only downside is they're dusty.

    novice question.
if I put Rotella T6 on this oil change. can I switch to any other 5w-30 full synthetic after?

rotella T6 is on sale at part source.

There is no technical reason you can't, i think he is simply suggesting that it's still one of the best and most easily available oils for our platform. It does go on sale regularly and if you're a CAA member you get a discount at Napa on all oils (T6 included), so really its worth running all the time.

If money is a serious concern, think about the cost of a new engine versus a few extra bucks for the oil 4 or 5 times a year. Our engines are extremely hard on oil and it's not the place to cheap out TBH. You really only need to buy a single 5L each change and use the partial jug from the first fill for the extra 500ml or so needed, so the added cost is negligible.

    Rotella T6 5w-40 OR Penzoil Platinum 5w-40.

Use either and never look back.

so I went to part source and they were saying T6 doesn't comply with the fuel spec for a speed 3. which should say API-ILSAC.
    any info on this guys?
Plus he said the T6 should be for desil engine only.
    any help would be grateful?

It is supposed to be for diesel..

But dude, mazdaspeedforum explains why our cars can use that oil and is recommended for the speed platform.

Does your part source customer rep drive a speed3 or a speed6?

One thing thats always worth noting is that most parts source guys know about as much about a DI engine as they do a Rotary, if they know anything that isn't straight up heavy and american.

Also many of those and dealers included more or less _have_ to quote the book at you for liability reasons.

What they claim is gospel truth and what is real world applicable are often quite different.

I asked for an intake valve cleaning on my speed3, and advisor told me to get the fuel injector flush... the speech about it was so promising that if i didnt know any better, i would have done the flush. I kept saying that it was a direct injection but advisor still said that my fuel cleans my intake valves.

is it common for our MS3 to be burning oil?
what should I do to fix this?

when I did my last 2 oil changes I noticed I have only gotten back about 2.5-3L of dirty oil. from talking to people they are saying it should only burn about 1L (from one oil change to another) any more might be something to look into.
around my exhaust tips it is black. but that has been there since day one.

would love to hear your guys advise

Shouldn't burn any oil...It's usually turbo, rings or PCV issues.

    Black smoke is fuel.

    Blue smoke is oil.
