    Default ?? How To: Detail

Ok. So I got my 2016 Mazda 3 Sport on Thursday and it rained on Friday night. Went out to my car and there were water spots all over the windows and body. They were bugging the hell out of me so I took it through a car wash; problem solved - or so I thought. Went to Walmart to buy a microfibre cloth that was labeled "for drying" and hold 7x its weight in water just to clean off the excess water and by the time I got home the spots were back! I wiped the rear window with the cloth and noticed the cloth was leaving mini fibres on my glass and suddenly there were two scratches there. They're small and you have to "look" for them but I want my car to be perfect - I mean I JUST bought you!

Now to the purpose of my post: where can I learn to detail my own car - including buying the RIGHT product so that I don't scratch my vehicle or create swirls? I know there are ways to repair that tiny scratch too, and I'll be doing that myself. Ideally I'll be cleaning my car every weekend as a new hobby, with rinses throughout the week to get rid of the day to day crap. Pops picked up a power washer at Walmart for some other application but I figure I could use that to clean my car too.

    Any help is appreciated.

Couldn't agree more. Just spent the last week. Doing a two step with the speed3. Now I'm doing 3 step (wet sand, compound, polish) on the Saab. It is expensive (to buy the right products and machines), but it gives great satisfaction to see a good finished product.

Check out chemical guys in mississauga they have every product you could ever need and 20 different variations of it. They have tons of helpful employees and offer detailing courses a few times of month. I've got a full arsenal of supplies from them and don't plan on buying anywhere else.

Great suggestion. A local shop would be a good place to start.

I plan on taking the course myself soon. I detail on the side and figured it wouldn't hurt getting some more tips from the pros.

The problem is most of the stuff you buy over the counter at walmart or Canadian Tire isn't that great for your vehicle. Autogeek is probably one of the best forums to learn how to really detail your car properly but there's a lot of really good ones. Do a lot of research before you start buying any products but it'll cost you about close to 700 dollars or 800 dollars to do a full set up so that you can take care of any scratches or swirls you start putting on your car. As for a coating of some sort, there's literally dozens of different ones you can get and what not. I used Cquartz UK on my own Mazda and it took me a bit of a learning curve to do it.
