The only difference between a watch or a nice pen for example is you can take really good care of it while using it and keep it in pretty mint condition

A knife on the other hand if you really use it a lot it wears so in that sense it's kind of like an expensive car

I honestly just buy these items randomly and replace as needed.

Id say 99% of the pocket knives I had were free premiums or cost me less than $50

I'll spend the money on cool shit - novelty knives like butterfly and belt knives or throwing knives etc

    Cool thread.

Here's my EDC kit. Only day to day thing in my pockets that's missing in photo is a belt clip with door cards on it.

Other EDC item that's always with me, though in my laptop bag and not on my person, is a Picquic multi-screwdriver.

    Car key
My newly discovered and immediately loved Gerber Dime
Keysmart extended - 1 house key, all other work keys plus a 32GB USB drive

I used to carry a Leatherman Wave, but it was big / heavy overkill for what I actually used it for. The Wave is still awesome, but it's been re-assigned to glove-box duty so it's still available if needed. The Dime is pocket heaven for my current needs, and that bottle opener is actually pretty dang awesome.

^^^ Not gonna lie, it's a bit of a battle to get it exactly how you want it. I have 2 now and love them to bits now that I don't need to take them apart again.

My first one was a compact model titanium version, got it for $20 or something on a boxing day or black friday deal. But quickly found that my larger work keys weren't such a great fit (my primary reason for getting one). The idea proved to work for my pocket though.

Got another one when the extended went on sale. I now have a home edition with my home related keys and a bottle opener, and my work edition as pictured above.

From studum's post above, how many of you still walk around with the buck tag code to get keys cut if you loose them? I see studum still has and have run into a few at the dealership with them on their EDC.

I do not, what you see in my pic is a gym tag. Easier to keep it on car key, which I generally always have, then on the keysmarts which I swap out.

I keep my key code filed away with the rest of my documentation for the car.

Good practice. Looked like the vehicle tag.

Do you find your Key Smart gets loose often?

Often - no. From time to time, sure. I just tighten as needed with my thumb nail when needed.

Also preferred a Spyderco Para 3

    My Spydercos....

And with the Cold Steel Recon 1, which is a massive knife and you wouldn’t go walking around with that in your pocket

Nice collection. No serrated knives? I like serrated knives, just in case my whitewater raft flips over and I need to cut myself free or cut up some cardboard when I take out the garbage.

I find a sharp straight blade cuts cardboard way better than serrated.

Knife that has cut cardboard the best has been my Opinel No.8

It slices through with ease and the knife itself is so cheap
