Default OPTIMO 4S ALL WEATHER TIRES

Anyone been using optimo 4s all weather tires on their mazda 3? Share your thoughts and anger as well as praise.

Not everyone can afford or better yet have space for two sets of tires so this should be a good topic to discuss.

One thing to remember is they are still a compromise. Most of these have a lower tread wear rating because they have a softer rubber to deal with winter. (Some as low as 60,000km. Probably less)

I agree but for apartment dwellers, it's a good alternative as you said "compromise" for winter tires. City driving can be tackled by this tires but not constant trips to ski country where dedicated winter tires are a must. I would like to hear from other's who have used optimo s for at least a season or two so we have an idea how good it is for Toronto/Gta weather.

Just an FYI most tire places offer storage as well if that's the problem.

Precisely why I started this thread. Not everyone has luxury for tire storage either with money or space. Everyone is skeptical about purchasing all weather tires esp Hankook as there is not one furom that discusses it thoroughly in real like driving conditions for Mazda 3 drivers esp.

Just to throw it out there. You need softer rubber in order for the tire to bite into snow (which is why winter tires are flexible below 7 degrees so it can provide excellent grip. All weather tires such as optimos provide this. Their recipe keeps the rubber soft well below freezing. It also stops the rubber from getting too soft when driving in summer heat.

Lol i have yet to see a review for a mazda 3 but from online reviews it seems like a good set of tires as a "compromise".

I am eyeing this one also. For future references.

However it is really skeptical that they can make rubber that is soft enough during winter, hard enough for summers, and have a high threadwear.

When I purchased a car, i kept in mind that winter tires is a must. I live in a building with no storage space. I made space and money for a set because that is a part of owning a car in a place that has summer and winter.

Maybe this type of rubber material is great for SUVs because of them being heavier. Have you checked to see if the toyota forums or the honda forums have any feedback on this? Of course, to vehicles that is equivalent to a mazda 3 ish..

I haven't .. I guess i'm the only one using this set tires on their Mazda 3. Currently entering the 2nd winter that this tire is on (tires are on all year round)> I rotate it and balance the tires as needed so Let's see how well she works for the 2nd winter.

Last winter, well it was new so it gripped like a champ and I never had any issues with it. Its really good during slushy and wet roads from my experience.
