Default Whirring noise increasing with speed... bearings?

I probably answered my own question but just wanna clarify with others...

Been going on for quite some time now but seems like it's getting more annoying, my 2010 mazda 3 makes some sort of whirring or buzzing noise that increases with speed, is this always related to a bad wheel bearing(s)?

If so, anyone know what the average cost is to fix it?

    Thanks!

My 2010 (manual) makes a whirring noise from the transmission and always has. There is a known TSB wherein they did not put enough preload on the main shaft of the transmission (I'm also at 247,000kms). I wouldn't worry too much, just keep your fluid changed. If it's more of a buzzing noise, then yes, it could be wheel bearings. If the noise increases and decreases as you make hard turns, then it could be them going.

yess I would describe it more as buzzing, coming from the front of the car.

But no noise from the tranny for me tho, how often do you change the tranny fluid? I'm only at 82000

A wheel bearing sound can be proportional with speed (louder at some speeds than others, but reproducible) and if it's in the front end it can be noisier when turning one direction compared to the other.

If you turn left and the noise is louder your right bearing has issues. If you turn right and the noise gets louder your left bearing has issues.

Get it checked out, it will only get worse if that's the problem and wheel bearing failures aren't pretty if you let it go that far.

Does this TSB apply to the 2.0L 5MT or 2.5L 6MT? Do you have a copy of this TSB? Can you describe more in detail this "whirring noise"...where and when it happens etc..

I do my tranny fluid yearly, which is gross overkill. I'm an over maintainer.
