Default 5mm Spacer - Will centre hub still protrude into wheel bore to centre it? Gen 2 Sky

Hi. 2013 Skyactiv, and putting on '06 RX-8 wheels with 235/40/18. Front is spaced well, but was thinking of bumping out back with a 5 mm spacer.

However, I am concerned that there will not be enough of the centre hub protruding beyond the spacer to go into the wheel bore to keep it centred (aka hubcentric). I don't want the wheels centered off the studs as that is likely to lead to vibrations.

I suspect to provide good centering capability, it the centre hub will have to protrude at least 10mm beyond the face of the rotor. This would mean that there is at least 5 mm past the 5 mm spacer to go into the wheel centre bore to centre it.

Does anyone know how much the centre hub protrudes beyond the face of the rotor?

    Thanks in advance.

Wow, not sure what I was thinking when i put this in the brakes and suspension section.

Mod, can you move to Wheels and Tires?

    Thx.

No, putting a space or on their will effectively make the Hub disappear.

Darn it...I thought that might be the case. Thanks for the quick response.

Pretty sure you can get 10 or 15mm spacers with the lip. RX8s are super conservative offset so you should be fine.

Good point. We did a test fit and with the 235 tires, it comes out pretty good. I would have to see them on the car again, but my fear is that 10 or 15mm might get too close to the fender and possibly cause rubbing under load. I don't want to get into rolling fenders or anything.

Also, excuse my ignorance on this, but does staggering the stance that much cause any instability issues, specifically with cornering? I mean this is not a track car nor will it be driven like it's a race car, but also don't want to cause any potential unsafe driving situations.

Staggering as far as offset goes? No you'll be fine.
