Question Humming noise from front passenger wheel area

    Hi there,

Recently, I've noticed there's a noticeable humming sound that is coming from my front passenger wheel area. The noise seems like a soft grinding noise - definitely not the high pitched sound you get from your breaks.

Now the noise comes on when I get up to or cruising between 100-110 km/h. The pitch of the noise doesn't change when i switch lanes.

It only goes away if I slow down or speed up.

Weird thing is that it comes on on random times, i.e. I can be driving for an hour and it doesn't come on even when cruising at 100+ km/h on highways.

    Anyone have an idea?

    Thanks for the help!

If you're at highway speed and hear the noise, and then (gently!) sway the steering back and forth, does the noise come & go, or change? Sounds almost like classic bearing noise to me in one or more wheel hubs. If it's that, you do not want to let that slide until it totally fails.
Even if the noise doesn't change on swaying, it may still be the bearing, just harder to diagnose.

Drove to work this morning it never came on. I tried cruising between 100-110 like i mentioned but it never came on.

When it does come on, it seems to come on for a couple of seconds, then comes off, and repeats for two or three more times until it fully goes away.

There is no use guessing on here. Take the advice given and don't let it slide, take it in asap and have it checked out by a pro, or you could find yourself in a sad predicament.

It could just be road noise.

Did you recently had tire rotation? The mazda dealership i went to told me its normal since the front wheels get used differently than the back wheels so its a little bit "unbalanced" (dont know the proper term) and that causes the noise

I have been noticing something similar this past few days. It hums more frequently the faster I go - taking to Jimmy's this SAT. Can't risk a bearing issue later on this summer with all the up north driving.
