Default New impact not taking of lugs.

Hopefully this is a valid place to make this post. Bought a air impact capable of 230 or 250lbs, 20 gallon tank running at 115psi, and what I think is a 1/2 hose, say 25ft. Can't take a single lug nut off. ( Not my car, winter rims, no idea how long the nuts have been on ). It can tighten a lug and then not take it off. (Didn't overtighten, was just for testing). I don't get it. There's gotta be something I'm missing.

Why won't it take off lugs?

Have you oiled the tool? Oiling can affect torque output significantly. Make sure it's 'air tool oil'. Also, a lot of impact drivers have knobs on them for torque output, make sure it's turned to the highest number. Mine is the princess auto one below and the knob has to be at 4 for some serious spinning. Because of how the hammer mechanisms are designed in impact guns, they can bias towards more torque in F vs R. You should be able to crack them no problem though.

On the highest setting yes. Oiled, not yet. Was the first use. I will oil it before my next use for sure. But I feel like there has to be something else. Oil can't be everything I'm doing wrong.

Air impact usually only have one setting for loosening and that's maximum. For tightening they sometimes have three or four settings. But honestly, for taking off and wheels, in order to not damage them I would loosen them with a breaker bar. When you use an impact any finish that's on the lug nuts often comes off, as well as the paint on the inside of the holes on the Wheel.

Interesting to know, can't say I've ever seen a shop use a bar before a impact. How much does a breaker bar typically cost?

    Like 30 on sale.
A shop cares about time, and money. Not your lugs

When installing lugs at a shop, we use torque sticks on the gun to prevent over torque.
In your case the 115 psi may not be what your issue is. There is another rating on the compressor that you require. If I remember correctly its called CFM. The higher the number the better. However if you bought a cheap impact, then that could also be an issue. I have an 1100FT/lbs impact which does almost everything on my shop compressor. On my home compressor, it works until the compressor kicks on. I am only using an 8gallon. I use very thin hose as well.

I think it might be the impact to be honest, cheap dealership cheapingbojt where they can. Its a 22gallon compressor with a max of 115psi,

I run a 20 Gallon at about 130psi and it will turn the toughest of bolts. It's probably the impact.

I use a mastercraft impact for day to day things, and have a really good 20v at work, and the mastercraft one, which I got in an air kit from Crappy Tire for $80 total works great. Some cheap stuff can be really good. Works better than a co-workers Mac Tools gun most days.
