You have rust Inside your car?? I'm assuming you mean outside, your best bet is to sand down the rusty spot, use a primer and a paint to cover it up, but this will only temporarily fix it. Rust on a Mazda?? I don't believe it, You must be the first one to ever get rust

Car has hit or been hit, therefore paint has been removed and the metal is now rusting. Looks fixable if you take it to a good body shop. Going to cost some money likely $700-$1000 at least.

NO rust on a Mazda!? I don't believe it. We need to agree the metal quality of Japanese car is not as good as the German cars (ABB). There must be some (or too many) rust on a 10 years old Japanese car, here or there...

Check your underneath, I don't believe there is no rust. And after some more years, you will find rust on the fenders something...

And while you see the rust showed up over the outer paint, actually it's very serious already. Maybe it's already penetrated from inside out thoroughly. Regarding OP's car, I agreed to S.F.W, it will be costly to fix it. And I can tell another bad news, the door panel rusty spot and the quarter panels are not that thick, maybe after sanding down the rust, it will not be too much metal remained... Maybe actually the shop will need to cut the rusted piece out and give your car a patch to weld on the remained sheet metal to fix it.

And even you can find a good body shop and pay the good money for a good restoring job, it won't last for a good time and will rust again.

To my opinion, just cheap done DIY, 10 bucks to get an aerosol can of some kind of Rust-Check primer some thing, sand the rust out (no need to remove it completely, it's not worth a detailed job which will cause you a long time to finish), and use the spray can to cover the rust. And keep doing it from time to time to slow down the rusting speed. AND begin to look for your next car.

The rust will not affect your car's performance and you still have years of time before the rust can finally damage your car's safety. It's just making your car not looking good any more.... This maybe a "good" news to give you some comfort?!

@JeremyB -Those spots are nothing. If you have a friend who can help or do it yourself, you can fix those areas up easy and in no time. Cost will be minimal, just materials such as sandpaper, body repair kit and paint.

If done correctly it'll last several years yet.

Fix it yourself if you're up to it. Seeing as it is a first gen you probably only plan to own it for another 4 years. That amount on your car isn't embarrassingly bad.

You'll need a drill to make it easy. Grind down the rust to metal using a wire brush attachment. A body repair kit can be purchased at CT and includes fiberglass, bodyfilla, sandpaper etc. Then some primer paint, fine sandpaper and tape, and finally paint and clear coat. As for paint you can just try to match it as close as possible through purchasing it basically anywhere in aerosol cans, or there are some places you can take your colour code and they will match the colour exactly, and also available in aerosol. I can't remember any names of places which do so, but maybe someone else can chime in on that.

Oh and best to take your rear bumper completely off when repairing those quarter panels.
