    Default Engine Swap: 2015 3rd Gen Mazda 3 GS (2.0L) >> 2017 Mazda CX-9 2.5L Turbo

Hey guys, went to the Britannia x Mavis car meet in Mississauga tonight and met some drivers that highly recommended this forum.

My question is related to a potential engine swap for the 2015 GS (3rd Gen Mazda 3).
Can anyone here predict any foreseeable issues with installing a 2017 Mazda CX-9 crate motor into the 2015 Mazda 3 GS with 200,000km?

Local mazda parts dept. gave me an estimate of $3,500-4000 for a new CX-9 motor, core charge / tax included.
I found a garage on Mavis that does great work with regards to swaps and other tunes.
Their mechanic is uncertain about a possible issue with the ECU / electricals and routing for the exhaust / turbo, however the Skyactiv-G transmission on the CX-9 FWD appears nearly identical to that of the 3.

There's been a lot of talk about this engine's potential for smaller cars like the 6 and 3. I would very much appreciate an input from mechanics / enthusiasts who know more about the Skyactiv drivetrain.
I can't seem to find any useful information related to a potential swap, other than the word of a couple mechanics & this blog from Car&Driver where Mazda was quoted to have confirmed the 2.5L turbo would indeed fit in the Mazda 3. blog.caranddriver.com/mazda-confirms-cx-9s-2-5l-turbo-four-fits-in-other-models

With the next-gen Mazdaspeed3 at least several years away, this is a modification I find pretty compelling.
The 2.5L turbo variant in the CX-9 produces just over 300Ft.lb of torque and 250hp on premium gas

Fuel delivery, security system, extra weight on front end, custom cv axles. Anything is possible, would love to see it happen. Add another 5 grand on top of the motor realistically assuming you could do a lot of the work.

Hey thanks, do you think there would be a lot of extra weight associated with adding the slightly bigger motor? upgrading the stock suspension, struts shocks etc

any chance you can recommend a compatible aftermarket hood for short ram intake on the M3 similar to this item. doesnt have to be carbon, just for the added airflow

your gonna need the wiring harness and ecu which is gonna run you prob just as much as the engine. If you plan on using your ecu, what is your tuning solution? after all is said and done, your gonna be over 10k easily in parts alone. and are you okay with having your car off the road for a week or two?

if your okay with being the guinea pig and have time and money. its probably easier and cheaper to turbo your current motor and replace it with another 2.0l when it goes.

why do you need that hood for a short ram intake? you would only need it if your running a tmic on a boosted setup. it would only be providing you with a certain look, zero performance gain.
