Default Mazda 3 won't start after accessories have run

Our 2010 Mazda 3 with a standard tranny has done this twice. When it was parked with just the radio running for about 10 minutes, it would not start. All the dash lights flashed off and on. The starter would not engage. The battery is fully charged , and all connections are clean and tight. The car always starts otherwise. My dealer doesn't know what could be done. I asked if there was a relay that might be sticking, and if they could do any testing or had had similar issues. They said they didn't have any testing they could do, unless it happened at their shop. This only happens when it has been parked with the radio running, in accessory mode.

    Any ideas.

Does the car have the original battery? If it does its time to replace it. 5 years is the average.

(I hope the dealer did test it.)

You can have the right voltage in the battery but if the CCA aren't there she ain't gonna go.

Have you had a full charging system / battery test done?

Yes two shops have done a battery check for Cold Cranking Amps. Both test were well with what you would hope an older battery might have. The problem is sporadic. You could likely run the radio 30 to 40 times and not have it occur. So parking it at the dealers, would result in numerous service charges. Any kind of a boost, seems to reset the system, and it starts. Last night when it happened I had the lightest set of booster cables, and we connected to a GM car with the small battery side posts. I touched the key and it fired right up. If my battery were weak or shorting out, I don't think the charge coming in from light booster cables, and a side post connection would have given that quick a start.

You have an intermittent plate inside the battery. Replace your battery. This is one of the common failure modes of lead acid batteries; you can read 12V across it all the time, but the instant you got to pull high amperage, the internal battery connections become too resistive and won't be able to provide the CCA you require. It mimics a dead battery. Yours is definitely on its way out given how unpredictable it is.
