Smile need to change brakes and rotors - help requested :)

    Hey guys,

I been to Jimmy on the weekend and he told me that I have about 20,000km left on my factory rotors and brakes. I was wondering if any of you know the part # I need to get to get them replaced on all 4 sides.

I believe its pads and rotors. I would be going with OEM.

Car is a 2013 mazda 3 gs sedan.

If anyone else also knows a location that wont empty my wallet, that would be great too!

    Thank you so much!

You can go OEM, look up the parts on rockauto and go to an affiliate dealer for a discount. Or you can go aftermarket, maxbrakes is often recommended(no personal experience), but they are much less expensive.

    Thanks @S.F.W.

I'll visit Dixie Mazda for the parts. Any ideas on the cost for rotors and brakes on all 4 corners?

Dealership is the most expensive option. Some people swear by oem. I think there are two levels of quality. Standard and higher quality ones at the dealership.
As mentioned Rockauto.com has good prices. Maxbrakes has generally good reviews. Also oem type from Nextmod.
I got mine done at a shop with AC Delco parts and satisfied with them. A bit cheaper than oem but excellent quality.

Three good local suppliers for auto parts in the GTA are General Auto Parts, Etobicoke Discount auto parts and Oakville Discount auto parts. Youcan get Delcos, Raybestos etc from them.

OEM will be more expensive but last longer.

20,000km left on your current set is a year for "average" drivers. You probably have months of life left, so I wouldn't be in a huge rush. Unless you're getting vibration, noise or having trouble stopping, I'd consider waiting until late in the year (just before the really cold weather arrives).

Does the 2013 still need the special tool to "rotate back" the rear calipers? If so, you can borrow the kit for free from any Crappy Tire. You *can* do without, but with an increased risk of buggering the calipers.

    @bpsmicro

Jimmy didnt mention that he requires a tool to rotate back the rear calipers. I assume he knows how to handle that. Ya, I'm just sourcing where to find the parts. So far I looked at rockauto, and someone below mentioned a few other places that I might look into as well. Dealership would be the best but they are more expensive

There's no issues with stopping, just nearing some squeaks from the brakes as I brake and let off the brakes. I do quite a bit of driving, and I estimate that I will need to do it around Jan or Feb.

    Thanks for your input tho

You might want to check these out; http://maxbrakes.com/i-17426638-elit...brake-kit.html

Been using these for approx 2 years now with no issues. Stopping power is good and they are wearing really well.

Can't beat the price right now either!

Those look nice! Do you know if they fit the stock 16" alloys?

You'll have to call them and make sure they carry that particular kit for your car.

They are also located in Markham, so easy pick up also.

Thanks so much! Just placed a order for the slotted ones without the black coat, ya good price too!! $124.00 (taxes included)

Jimmy mentioned it would be $100 per side at the dealership.

You may want to consider the 'coated' ones, especially if you don't like seeing rusted rotors. I don't know what Jimmy was quoting, but the Mazda dealership price is much higher then that, like near $200 a side....Last I checked anyway.

Rockauto doesn't sell OEM parts... they sell OES at best... only the dealer sells OEM
You can't go wrong with Akebono or Advics pads, which are OES

IMO the OEM pads for the 1st and 2nd gens aren't that great... lots of dust and noise issues

Anywhere to get calipers? Not sure if need them yet.

I Need brake pads and rotors according dealership for rear brakes.

Checking the Calipers to see if they need to be replaced.

    At dealership:
Brakes and pads, quotes about $535 with install OEM
Add calipers (forgot price), $200 install each side
    Brake fluid flush $128

    Total could be $1200 ish

I bought a set of reman calipers from parts source (again, there's a host of other places you can go, too). They've been great and I was able to recover the core charge of $40 each. So they came in about $130 per side.

$1200 isn't bad for the dealer to do all of that if you've budgeted for it. You could probably do better at any of the reputable independent shops recommended on the forums. I'd never spend that amount, personally, but I've been doing all my own work for 15 years.
