    Angry Squeak noise

Under my cars hood there's some Squeak noise, of course it's most likely the serpentine belt but does anyone know how to replace it? Or if I take it to the shop how much would I expect to have it replaced?

It's easy to replace but you really need a friend to help you. You can do it by yourself but it ain't easy.
    1. Find a diagram of how the belt is run or take a picture.

    2. Jack up the front of the car or the passenger side, whatever works and use jack stands and wheel chocks.

    3. Remove front passenger wheel.

    4. There maybe a plastic guard covering the tensioner pulley. Remove if there .

    5. Locate the tensioner pulley it's a fairly large pulley near the bottom closer to the firewall and not obviously connected to anything.

    6. Get a large spanner or socket and breaker bar it think it's a 17mm and attach to the bolt of the pulley and push toward the firewall IIRC which will compress the spring and allow you to slip the belt off.

    7. reinstall the new belt this is where your friend comes in. Run the belt through all the other pulleys and leave the tension one for last. Compress the spring and slip it on and you're done. Have your friend hold the belt in place from up top to keep it from slipping off while you're pushing the pulley with one hand and using the other to slip the belt on.

There maybe a better way to do it but that was how I did mine.

The A/C compressor belts will always begin to squeak on these cars eventually. Does it only make a momentary 'chirp' when the Defrost or AC is on? The AC belt is a stretch belt (no tensioner) and as it ages, it will squeak.

in the olden days, i would put a drop of oil on the outside of the belt and it took care of the squeek.

As the engine is running, drip one to three drops of oil on top of the belt and see what happens.

Could be the idler pulley. Search the site here and you''ll get some hits for it... dead easy to change. It's literally a 10 minute job.
