Tried to change my hid bulb today on my 2011 speed 3. Still didn't work. I assume my ballast is done. Where can I buy a replacement ballast besides the dealer ? Amazon? Thanks

Hey, I can set you up with a pair of new ones.
It will be $275 to your door for the pair.
That's probably half the cost of the dealership.
Always recommend replacing in pairs to keep lights the near same brightness.

Modifications? I've forgotten more than I remember. Click here for the list.
Ballasts/igniters will not change the colour/brightness of the bulbs. (Unless you are going from 35W to 55W.)Only bulbs will do that. Changed many xenon bulbs on one side to have people complain they are not the same colour/brightness afterwards. I am also referring to dealer new parts
1991 Nissan Pathfinder - trade in, 2005 Mazda 3 GX ty grey - Write off, 2010 Mazda 3 GT E sedan CWP- trade in, 2010 Speed 3 w/tech CWP - Up for sale (soon), 2007 Mazda 3 GS silver- motor swapped in to 2009 MS3 CWP that had blown engine, 2002 BMW 330ci silver- new winter ride, 2005 BMW M3- new toy
I don't get it, you kind of agree if me, but you also don't, I'm not talking about bulbs here (although after 6 years, new bulbs would see a difference for sure)
Ballasts won't change the colour, no, however they will fade. And after 6 years, while probably still better than 90% of the aftermarket options, the original ballast will for sure be weaker than a new oem option.

Bulbs will "fade" as you say over the course of 6 years yes. (Hence my last comment)
Having pieced together many different OEM setups I've never seen a ballst change the brightness of bulbs. I had an 04 ballast and an 07 ballast and no difference in colour. Lenses can cause a difference as my 04 headlight was dim, the 07 was much brighter due to a re-design. Smaller ballastsamd sharper cutoff . Once I changed to clear lenses there was no longer a difference.
35w(oem) ballasts are not as bright as 55w(aftermarket) ballasts. But you also need different bulbs for the 55w ballasts.
I have not yet seen an oem 55w bulb
You don't need different bulbs for 55w ballast. But all bulbs will die faster on a 55w ballast.
And of course a 35w oem wouldn't be brighter than a 55w aftermarket. They don't gain +20 invisible watts for being oem, I never said that.
