What about red tinted taillights. Are those illegal in Ontario?
I don't think it should be, because the lights are red anyway, but I could be wrong.

As long as there is a reflective property, and the reverse lighting isn't effected or colour changed , you'll be okay
I used a DupliColor MetalCast red on my old Gen1
I haven't had an issue, I just put a little strip of tape when I painted where the reverse light is so that it still shines thru the little window white
