Default What do you do when your car is in the shop?

    Super Noobie question!
In the past I have taken my car in to the dealership and gotten a loaner or dealt with a mechanic that was close to my workplace so that I could have them drop me off/pick me up.
Unfortunately I have some work that needs to be done that is going to take some time (transmission fluid change and possibly coolant change), and I was thinking about seeing Jimmy for the first time, but he only works weekdays and is across the city from where I work. I only have the one car.
What do you do in this situation? Rent a car for the day?

I'd say take the day off work and go see Jimmy. It'll be worth the drive and time.

Take the day off, or if you can work remotely you can drop the car off and head to either Tim Horton's or Starbucks and setup shop for the day. Other alternatives are rent a car, or get a friend to be your taxi driver.

Most Mazda dealers offer shuttle service...whenever I was doing dealer service that would take more than an hour I'd just get them to shuttle me home/work and pick me up when the work was done.

There's a Budget Car rental office across the street from Jimmy. I dropped the car off in the evening and picked up the rental. Next day, I dropped off the rental and picked up my car. 1 day rental cost.
