Default Fast flashing key LED in dash (immobilizer issue)

So I've been working on a bunch of maintenance things on the MS3 lately, one of which is some low voltage issues, causing some random CELs, first around the throttle body, then the accelerator sensor. Before going and replacing some sensors, I wanted to get the main fuse box cleaned up a bit.

I removed the battery and battery box (which holds the ECU) and then replaced all the mini fuses (10A and 15A) in the main fuse box, cleaning up it up a bit, and checked under neat to make sure there wasn't any mice trying to nest, and that all the wires were good (luckily they were, no evidence of anything nesting, etc).

Put everything back together yesterday, go to fire up the car, and it won't start. I hear the relay click over, but no starter. The immobilizer is enabled and won't start the car (flashing car/key LED in the dash when starting the car).

From what I can tell, the ECU somehow lost the pairing with my key. I can't reprogram it because I only have the one key, and not 3 of them to repair against.

Has anyone run into this and gotten it fixed? From what I can tell I need to call a Mazda dealership to get things re-paired, but wondering what is involved. Not sure if this is something that can be done without towing the car in (which would be incredibly inconvenient).

Any experience would be appreciated, even if it's just to tell me what to tell Mazda

Same thing happened to me when I put in my new CS battery box on Friday. Turns out I hadn't quite plugged one of the ECU plugs in completely. Try unplugging and plugging them back in and hopefully that fixes it.

Yea that's what I did a couple times as well. I might go and just double check everything again, but I did reseat everything after it happened just in case, but still no go.

Might try reseating everything and maybe disconnect the battery for a couple of hours, but I feel like leaving the ECU disconnected for a few days is what started this problem...

My Mazdaspeed6 had the immobilizer activate when my key fob battery was dying. If it's a old battery that might be the issue.

Sounds like there may be some wiring issues but it hard to tell from my keyboard... lol

@pwdunmore yea I was thinking the same thing, and that was going to be my next thing.

I went back out and reseated everything for the third time, and lo and behold, the car started up. Thanks @MikeTheCheek for the suggestion, as it made me go and try yet again

When I was pulling everything back out, I noticed the wiring harness in the main fuse box didn't really de-latch properly, so it's possible it was not quite seated perfectly flat. This time I was *super* careful to make sure everything was aligned there, and with wiring harnesses on the ECU as well.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Glad it's working. When I went to re check mine I was able to pull out the plug without lifting the white latch
