Car doesn't always start in Park

So I checked around the threads with other reports of the car not being able to start in Park or only starting in Neutral. Looks like I'm facing something similar with mine (2009 Mazda 3 GS sedan auto). Recently when I put it into Park, the green square is no longer visible around the "P". Also there are times when I come back to the car and try to start it and it won't go at all. I end up having to play around with the gear changer like moving it to Reverse and then Park again. Then I'm able to start the car.

Anyone have any thoughts on whether it's something electronic or physical that they have to fix? Any estimates on how much it costs?

Thanks for the response! So would a dealership charge for this or is it something that should be covered under some kind of manufacturer warranty?

Only recalls are covered (safety related). TSB's are just an FYI for dealers that this is a common problem. This would not normally be covered.
