    Default So I just blew my motor. 08 m3 GS 2.0

    I was heading back from work, going about 125km on a slight incline, heard a series of knocks, engine dies, oil light comes on and engine light comes on and my motor dies.. we all know what that means... brought it to my mechanic and he said I dropped a valve so I basically need a new engine or a rebuild. BUT how does this happen just out of the blue? I kept this thing in top notch condition, although I did beat on it a little bit I did also take care of it. This car drove like new before my motor supposedly gave out. It's not like I was racing or hitting redline at the time of the incident either I was driving normally and I've never money shifted the car before or during the time. what could be the cause? My car has 220xxxkm on it on the stock engine/tranny it seems like alot but I was still making 205psi all across and it was a completely healthy engine. But anyway im towing my car to my mechanic tomorrow and swapping in another 2.Slow into my car with 80,000km on it out of a written off car.

    As TheMan says probably a low oil situation.

    I check my oil level everytime I fuel up. I think its imperative once you get up there in mileage, plus gives you the opportunity to eyeball under the hood for stuff light belt condition, other levels, etc;

    I check my oil level every oil change (4-4500km) and I have no loss of oil. Like I said, this motor was meticulously maintained and ran completely healthy. My only suspicion could be that I didn't let the car warm up enough to operate. But even then, it shouldn't have caused a catastrophic failure.

    Like flagrum said, he checks his oil level every fill up, that could be once a week or more depending on how often he drives. If you check it every 4-5000 kms that could be months of driving. A lot can go wrong in a couple months of driving. Sorry to hear about the car though! Hopefully the swap goes well!

    have you swapped parts recently? spark plugs, gaskets, etc? if so, which parts were they? we can diagnose better if we know what's been tampered with. meticulous maintenance doesn't equal to perfect engine. it's definitely an age factor but we can't tell unless we see the internals right? what did your mech say? btw which shop is doing your swap?
