    Default Timing Cover??

I know my belt and the tensioner pulley for my 08 is up for replacement but I was advised to also replace the "timing cover" as it was leaking and I dont want water getting in? Abit confused and searches didnt pull anything up here.

Part is cheap but labor is $$$$$$$

Motor has to be timed and nothing is keyed. I payed the dealer to do mine. I look at it as cheap insurance

Had to reseal the cover on my 04 when it was at around 200k kms as it was leaking oil. I don't think its an uncommon thing once your mileage gets up there.

Its not an easy job so it ain't cheap haha. I was told its either the motor gets dropped, or they take apart the car basically on the side if the tech doing it knows what they are doing

8 hours of labor or up to 10k for a speed 3 crate engine?
New/used car... who knows what you are running in to for repairs. New new car... monthly payments
8 hours at (what are they charging these days?) Guestimate 100-120/hour is equivalent to 800-960$ and parts plus tax... If the car isn't rusting to the ground and has been well maintained, and you enjoy it, still the cheapest option

True to that... was seeing if this was normal...i was told to re weld the sealant in the engine too but not sure how long that would last...

Huh? It is a timing chain. Is it making noise signalling the guides are worn out?

No noise there is a small leak apparently and the cover needs to be replaced. I thought we don't have chains or rather the speeds do.

I would encourage you to get a second opinion. All chains, which is a huge benefit of our cars. My first 3 had 320k on it no issues with chain and my current one is 225 with no issues.

Mazda uses make a gasket as apposed to a proper rubber/metal gasket (which I seriously hate). Chain issues are only speed problems according to the extended service bulletin.

Get in touch with Jimmy at Street Performance. He did mine when I had a leak.

the cover doesn't need to be replaced, just resealed... there is NO gasket, just a silicone sealant

as a cheap fix, you could try switching to a high mileage oil (I recommend Valvoline Maxlife) which has additional seal conditioners... this could cause old gaskets to become pliable and seal again
