Default Brakes squeaking in the morning

    Hi there,

Trying to get some information/help regarding my issue.

I've recently bought 2012 GS-Sky (72K KM), took it to the mechanic to inspect and do the maintenance. There were no real issues with it but 1: the moment temperatures dropped below 5, my rear brakes started to squeak (sometimes pretty noisy) first 3-4 times in the morning and when I leave my work.

So when I took the car to the mechanic, I told him what is going on, and what he has spotted was this:
Pads on one of my rear brakes was not engaging in full, but only a top part of the pad. Here are few pics to illustrate what do I mean
I've marked the area covered with rust on a rotor and (logically) the area that was in a contact with it on a pad.

He has measured thickness of the pad and concluded that the pads were cheap chinese stuff and they should be changed. So he installed new ceramic pads (for both rear brakes) and cleaned that rotor from rust. Which, I guess, was a logical thing to do.

So the next morning was fine, but in 2 days the sound came back.

The problem here - I cannot really demonstrate the sound to my mechanic, as to appear the car should spend at least 5 hours outside. And his place is far from where I live and work.

So my question would be: what part of the brake mechanism can cause that problem. New pads, rotors looks new as well (I guess previous owner changed them not so long ago). Could it be somewhere in a caliper (support) mechanism? Just don't want to go to my mechanic and waste money and 3 hours of my time w/o fixing the problem.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Regards,
    Illia

You park outside? Moist buildup I would suspect. This is usually due to moisture from rain, dew, or condensation that collects on the surface of the rotors.

I do. And i've seen quite a few +-same topics all around, but if this would be unfixable, all cars would do those noises after cold winter nights, so I just trying to figure our what exactly causes this problem. Material of the pads, rotors? Some problems with caliper? Smth definitely should be there, wired that with so many cases of "my brakes squeaking in the morning" the best answer is "that's normal" ;(

Happened to me with OEM Rotors and Aftermarket Rotors....it's normal I'm afraid.

@Eleison _Did the mechanic disassemble and lube the sliders and guide holes. Looks to me as the possible problem not the pads. Most brake systems will squeal a bit right from a cold start, you need to ride them a bit to warm them up, and to remove rust build up from condensation. Its simply from the new materials being used.

Noise in the cold or wet is not abnormal with oem or aftermarket parts.

I have the same car and every morning it squeaks the first couple times then it’s fine. Just cold weather and/ or rust builds up until the pads remove it after several stops.

This makes me feel better. I'm at ~16,000km and was starting to get brake squeal in the evenings when I leave work (after being parked outside all day). Was rather concerning, but given that was the only time I heard it squeak, I was also confused by it.

will happen in the cold. the wet, and if there is condensation build up on the brakes after the first few brakes it should go away. can even happen after you have been driving for a while and not braking if the conditions are right.at 24,000km there will be a brake service done on the car and just make sure you get that done every year or 24k and your good to go

I had an occasional squeak out of the front end of my '14 GT, and it would be at it's loudest in the rain or wet snow. Turns out it was a sticking caliper. It was not cheap to replace!
