Default Shot Battery 08 Mazda 3

    Hey Everyone,

Well after 10 years the battery finally died. It was going but finally the -3 tonight killed it.

Just wondering what battery people recommend? I was going to go and get a Costco battery is there any others I should consider? Also does anyone know what Costco model fits? How hard is the battery to replace? Lastly does anyone know where I get battery terminal grease?

    Thanks T

Hey, our batteries are group 24F form factor. Costco has a fitment book on the shelves as well! You can get di-electric grease at Canadian Tire, Partsource etc. It's a very easy swap.

Really? So hey I guess I should change my starter, fuel pump, why not the alternator while I am at it since they are old. Old cars sometimes let you down and I am fine with that. I never spend useless money on cars which includes replacing a battery that works fine. My safety kit includes jumper cables and I am not all that concerned.

I agree, don't spend unless you are 100% sure is required in near future.

My wife car battery acts funny, sometimes stars no problem, other times it doesn't, need to investigate. It's 2010 Panasonic battery.

Probably an internal plate connection becoming highly resistive. Symptom is that the battery will read around 12V static, but will drop drastically once put under heavy load.

First of all, we're talking about car battery here. No where did I say anything about replacing other parts, so please stop with the FUD, ok?

Second, car batteries typically last 3 to 5 years. You are already double that and in the midst of a major cold snap and you even said.."just waiting for it to call it quits".

It's cheaper, more convenient and safer to replace a battery *before* it dies.

I replaced my factory battery (with a 24F) after 5.5 years when colder starts started to become sluggish. Sure, I could have kept on going, but family safety, and my time are worth more than taking chances on a trivially inexpensive maintenance item with a limited lifespan....
