    Default radio swap !

Hi all> I have a 05 Mazda 3 with the dead radio with the tape/MD button, and I found one in a scrap car with the media button! great got the plug to plug in my phone and went to install but realized that the plug to the information screen was not on my cars harness! the old radio had the wires go from the screen to the side of the radio and plugged in there, but the new one has no plug on the side it. The scrap car had a split harness that was part of the dash wiring! The radio does work just blank screen! Is there a way to fix this ? an adapter or do i have to splice it in anyone know how to get this working or are they not compatible?

    Thanks for any help!!!

Significant change from 05 to 06. You'll need an 05 audio unit. I'm pretty sure an 04 would also work.

what do you mean +1 ? and I'm trying to use the plug to get music from my phone was told to use a head unit that had the media button, the original radio with the tape /MD didn't work I can confirm that!. Did the 04 -05s have radios with media button as well ?

    Thanks Anthony

+1 means I agree with the person who posted previously to me.

You are restricted to only a radio from a 2004 or 2005 mazda 3. You cant use one from a 2006, which it sounds like the one you have is since there are 2 plugs (one for the radio and one for the lcd). The wiring harness changed during the 2006 year.

I’m pretty sure in 04/05 there was one harness to the radio/LCD where as in the 06-09 there were 2 (one to the radio and one to the lcd).

Thanks new to this didn't know the terminology lol!. So my next question is do they have a radio in the 04-05 that has the media button that can accept the aux. cable for the phone ? And or can a harness from an 06 be spliced in?

    Thanks for your help

Electronics are configured completely differently. Control and display logic that was part of the 04-05 audio unit was moved to other modules in the 06+ versions. Different wiring harness, different set of control codes, etc.

Google GROM audio for possible solutions to the aux input.

OK the problem is that I got the aux cable without all the information last year and wouldn't work in the original radio (tape /md ) button so I abandoned the idea ,and in November the original radio complete died, so no radio. Now I need a new head unit to function, can I/is there , an 04-05 radio with media button that can work with the aux cable and plug into my 05 car?And as stated the replacement I do have has no display screen so that wont work?Is there 04-05 with media?

    Thanks again
